“Try to calm down a little. I feel as though you love Lennox, and coming in hot the way you are might make his family a little leery.” Millie winks with a big smile.

I shake my head. “I so mad, Mils.”

“I can tell.”

I dart out when the doors open, and a light is on in Lennox’s office. I burst through the doors thinking I’m going to find him, but it’s Lachlan instead.

“Oh, I thought you might be Lennox.”

Lachlan’s with One and another man. “Hardy called. Do you care to tell us what happened?”

“Carter came to see me the other day. He and Lennox didn’t mesh. The following day, I found Carter in my office. Alice didn’t know who he was, and I never thought to tell her to keep him out. I never imagined he would do something like this, but I knew the minute Maisyn asked for the Charlotte file and he picked it up and reach it to me.

“There was no way he would know otherwise, so it hit me. I knew he’d have the copy in his briefcase, and he did. I didn’t touch it, but I lay cash on the fact that his prints won’t be the only ones on it.”

Lachlan glances at One. “We believe he shopped it and found a taker with our board member Rossi.”

“I don’t doubt it.” I swallow past the knot in my throat. “Do you know where Lennox is. I can’t get ahold of him.”

Lachlan runs his hand over his beard, and my stomach plummets. Lennox does that, and it’s never good. “Let’s step outside.”

“Alright.” I nod, following him out and into my office. “What is it, Lachlan?”

He rubs the back of his neck. “He’s gone, Lola.”
