“Let me get this straight. Colton is the silent partner and will help me hone my natural talent and ability. You’re here to manage me.”

She sits back, squaring her shoulders. “Basically.”

“Do you have a card? I’ll need to check with my people to see if I’m available.”

Colton slides me his information. “If you could let us know by Monday afternoon, I’ll be flying in from the West Coast and will need the time to get everything in order.”

“Yes, of course.” I stand, offering my hand to him. Colton follows my lead, taking it with a smile.

“We look forward to hearing from you.”

I nod, forcing myself to not check her out as her legs dart out from under the table. She stands, bending to grab her bag from the floor beside her. Spencer turns to her left, only putting her hand out at the last minute.

“Thank you for your time.” I reach for her, and the second our skin meets, a surge rushes through us, and the ignition flips. Our pulses race, sending a thrum through our bodies.

“I didn’t get your information.” We both hesitate as our hands pull away, reluctant to end the contact. She reaches into her bag, pulling a small white rectangle card free. Spencer locks eyes with mine, and her lips slightly part.

“You can call either of us.”

I nod, unable to look away. “Thank you.”

Spencer joins Colton at the door as he holds it open for her to exit my hauler. When it closes, my chest constricts, and I release the breath I’ve been holding. Why I ever thought I could keep her scent from permeating everything is beyond on me. All I could think of was that I needed to try to stop it from affecting me.

I stare down at my hand, opening and shutting it as the prickle left behind from her touch still affects me. Even as I shake it, the sensation from it moves through my body, thrilling me like nothing else.

A crash at the door rips me from my splendor, and I’m jolted to the thrashing from my two best friends fighting to get to me first. I chuckle when Margo gets the better of Crank, to be the one to ask.

“What was that about?” She blurts out, half in excitement and a half to prove she won.

I shrug, tossing the cards on the table. “They want me to come to their main office on Tuesday to talk about sponsoring me in the pro series.”

“Yesss!” Margo leaps into my arms, as Crank rounds the table. His arms are around us both, as they yell like idiots.

“Hell yes!”

I stand there, my best friends hanging off me, cheering me on to my next step, one that I’ve been working for years on, and all that I can think of is… her. Spencer Woods has invaded my good senses, and I have no doubt, I know I’m changed forever.

“Thank you all for coming. My father had an unexpected meeting he could not get out of attending. If you’ll open your prospectus and turn to page four.” I scan the table of business men and women to see if we’re all on the same page.

As I’m about to start with the first proposal, something from the far corner gets my attention. It’s Colton, fisting his sides as he stands just outside the door. And he looks angry.

“Davidson, would you mind taking over for me? Please excuse me for just a few short minutes, I have something I need to address.” I stand, making a beeline for the door and Colton.

Once in the hallway, I hurry over to him in the other conference room that’s relatively empty, considering we were supposed to have Rush and his people here today.

“What’s going on?”

Colton spins, fuming. “He left. He just walked out before we could even start.”

“Why?”

Colton tosses a file on to the table. “He didn’t say.”

“The hell you say!” I whirl around on my heels and bolt for the elevator. I’m hitting the call button before the rest of my body could reach it. The second it opens, I’m in and banging on it to close.
