Colton should be here any time tonight; he’s behind me one hundred percent. Although I know he’s still going to talk with me about all of this. The police got Lane and his bunch to agree not to press charges, I’m not sure it’s worth the price.

Spencer agreed not to press charges on him. She shouldn’t have agreed to that. This wasn’t her mess to clean up. The best thing to happen today, I introduced the love of my life to my dad.

“Are you sure you know what you’re getting yourself into, Spencer?” My dad, Sam, asks her jokingly.

“I do.” She laughs, taking my hand with a smile. “I have to admit I didn’t know he was an attorney.”

“We Hatcher men are multifaceted like that; Cleo says it all of the time.” He beams at the mention of my mom. Spencer laughs, switching to Boone.

“So, you married your childhood sweetheart but only after being separated for years.” Spencer slows toward the end, making sure she’s getting the story straight.

He nods. “It’s Margo’s cousin, Mackenzie.”

“Oh, I didn’t know that.” She exclaims.

Boone throws a curve next. “And their cousin, Maisyn, is married to One’s best friend Lachlan.”

“Wow, small world, and here it took me all of these years to find Rush.” She clings to my arm; her closeness alone makes my heart skip a beat. This makes it thrum. I only wish I had protected her better.

Dad looks at her, side-eyeing me. “You should come visit; Cleo would love to meet you.”

“As soon as I’m invited.” Spencer should realize she doesn’t need to be invited to stay with me. Unless this goes back to something else. I open my mouth to ask, but a man has got to be quick around here.

“I could be wrong, but I thought that was an invitation.” Dad chuckles.

Boone raises his brows. “I mean, I thought that was two. Considering asshole hasn’t asked her yet.”

“Spencer doesn’t need to be asked to come to visit me; she simply needs to arrive.” I lean over, pressing my lips to her cheek.

The rest of the evening, Spencer is bombarded with questions and regaled with my many attributes and faults. I have to admit, it’s been nice having them here with us. I think Spencer needed to feel safe again.

I let my dad know I was going to visit Rush at his home in Cherry Grove. Much to my surprise, he was pleasantly happy about it. Although I did have to promise to let my family know I was in town.

I rode back with Rush in his truck, although Crank drove us. Margo sat up front with him, and I snuggled Rush all the way there. Chase finished tenth, giving Brownwood Brothers a leg up, but Rush lost several spots.

“I think I might like living at the beach.” I murmur, staring out the window as the moon dances on the ocean. The sight is breathtaking; I thought nothing could ever beat the lights of the city.

Rush’s breath sweeps by my ear. “Yeah, sunrise is even more spectacular.”

“What’s that, Jail House Rock?” Margo giggles from the front seat.

Rush flips her off. “I didn’t go to jail.”

“I don’t understand,” Crank mumbles. “why can’t a lawyer defend themselves?”

“I can but it’s not the best plan of attack.” Rush explains. I’m still in shock he never told me he’s an attorney.

I run my hand through my hair, flipping it over my shoulder. “Well, Crank I don’t understand why no one told he was an attorney to begin with, but I guess that’s just me.”

“I went a few months ago, after meeting you, and took the exam. I didn’t mention it because I hadn’t gotten the results back.” He flashes me his panty melting grin, thinking he’s absolved. Nope, not at all.

“Bullshit, Hatcher.” Crank calls it, and I second it.

“Hear! Hear!” I cheer him on. “You should’ve at least told me.”
