Britney fluffed the pillow behind her and leaned back. “Did you know that the best school for girls’ crew is Gravenhurst Academy? No need to answer. I know you do, because you follow them.”

“I also follow Taylor Swift. Doesn’t mean I want to go to band camp.”

Britney smirked. She knew she had gotten Teagan’s interest.

Teagan shrugged. “So what if I follow Gravenhurst?”

“What if you could go there?”

Her feet answered for her. Performed a happy dance that sent water sloshing onto the carpet.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll get someone to clean it later. Anyway, my mom went to Gravenhurst. As an equestrian.” Britney let the comment land. “She’s friends with the head of the school. I can make a call right now and get you a tryout tomorrow morning. You know they’re here, right?”

Yes. Obviously. She followed them on Insta. They were the best girls’ rowing team on the East Coast.

“If you want me to call…” Britney gave a little “up to you” shrug.

Of course she wanted her to. “But… if I got in, I’d have to leave the guys.”

“Yeah, that’s kind of the point, Teagan. But you’d get to row again. It’s win–win, babe. If this works, you get what you want. And I get what I want.” She held up her phone. “Do I make the call or not?”

JOSH

The run hadn’t cleared his mind the way he hoped it would, but it was late. One more set of stairs and he called it. Time for bed.

He headed to his suite, debating a stop at Britney’s room when Teagan stepped out of it looking… weird.

“How was girls’ night?” he asked in a low voice. If Brit heard them talking, she’d come flying out to investigate.

“Total blast,” she said.

It clearly hadn’t been, but she was pretending so he would, too. “Did you comb each other’s hair and talk about boys?”

“Yeah. Except for the hair part.” Teagan dropped her sarcastic tone, shot a look at Britney’s door, and dropped her voice low. “She thinks there’s something up with you and me and wants me as far away from you as possible. I told her that was ridiculous.”

Josh shook his head. She didn’t think it was ridiculous and they both knew it. “Is it?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Teagan.” He’d had enough. “What are we doing here? Are you telling me you don’t think about the night at the docks?”

He watched her face soften as she relived the memory, felt that same lightning bolt of connection when her eyes shot to his.

“Shit,” Teagan said, panic setting in. “This is a problem.”

“You’re telling me. I have a girlfriend!”

She shushed him, beckoning to him to move farther down the hall. “I maybe have something with Cam.”

“You do?” He’d suspected. Known, really. Hadn’t liked it.

“These are not good feelings to have,” Teagan said, pointing between the two of them.

“Well deduced, Sherlock.”

Teagan’s phone pinged. She read it and freaked. “It’s her!”

“Well, don’t answer it.” Figuring out how to handle this crisis was the priority here. “I don’t want to do anything behind Britney’s back.”
