I Am Definitely Dead and in Heaven

Ron

I throw our bedroom door open.

I don't know which of us is pushing the other, I just know that our bodies are fused together in a desperate tangle of arms, short breaths, and pure, incendiary need. We stumble inside like two drunks. I kick the door shut behind us.

Slam.

The sound is immediately swallowed by the sound of our mouths crashing together again.

I push her against the hard surface of the door. My hands slide frantically over her hips, lifting her just enough to wedge her tighter against me. Her fingers dig into my hair. Then she pushes me. We do a messy, animalistic 180-degree spin, ending up slammed against the paneled wall next to the wardrobe.

I kiss her with a hunger that scrapes my throat. My teeth graze her lower lip, I bite it gently, tugging on it, and she gasps, opening her mouth to let me deepen the kiss. Our tongues seek each other out, tangle, challenge each other in a dance that is anything but gentle.

Suddenly, Selene pushes her palms flat against my chest. She breaks the kiss, panting, her chest rising and falling at a frantic pace. Her raven hair is a mess, her cheeks are flushed a gorgeous red, and her lips are swollen and slick.

"Okay," she pants, holding me a hand's breadth away with trembling fingers. "But this is just to relieve tension. Don't get any crazy ideas, Willers."

And, without even giving me the physical time to process the sentence, she dives right back onto my lips, kissing me with a ferocity that categorically denies every single syllable she just spoke.

A smile spreads across my lips right against her mouth. I slide a hand to the nape of her neck, holding her, while the other hooks around the curve of her waist.

"We both know that's not true," I murmur against her mouth, brushing my nose against her skin. "You just can't resist me."

I feel her breath catch for a fraction of a second. She pulls back just a hair, ready to blast me with some biting insult, but my eyes are locked on hers. And I see it. I notice that tiny, traitorous little giggle she is fighting with everything she has to hide. Her defenses are crumbling.

I was right. She's a softie deep down. A gorgeous, stubborn, tender-hearted girl hiding beneath layers of cynicism and dark clothes.

I take advantage of her moment of weakness and start kissing her again, tilting my head to taste her deeper, absorbing that hidden smile.

Selene lets out a frustrated sound, halfway between a moan and a growl. She grabs the collar of my t-shirt, pulling me away for the umpteenth time, her eyes narrowed into two dark slits.

"You realize you are this close to losing your chance to have sex with me, right?" she threatens, and her low, husky voice sends the blood pounding straight to my groin.

I shift my hands, sliding them slowly up her sides to plant them flat against the wooden wall, right beside her head, trapping her in my space.

"I have no intention of being compliant just to convince you to have sex with me," I tell her. "And, above all, Selene... I have absolutely no intention of lying to you and saying I'll let you go after tonight."

I watch her eyes widen imperceptibly.

And it's the truth. I'm not going to pretend I won't want her again. Life is short, fragile, and so fucking unpredictable. What we just went through out there, even if the killer turned out to be nothing but a stupid TV stunt, is glaring proof of that.

As my words settle in the air between us, I clearly see something cross her eyes.

It's a lightning-fast flash. A crack. A strange expression. But it vanishes almost instantly. Her expression shifts, going back to cold, haughty, untouchable.

She lifts her chin, challenging me.

"Well..." she murmurs, her voice steady but dangerously close to a whisper, "then I have a feeling you're going to be very disappointed."

I lower my face until the tip of my nose brushes hers.

"Challenge accepted, Moon Goddess," I whisper, flashing the most confident, stubborn smile I have. "Let's see who wins."
