“Best way to start the day?”
“Uh…”
“Quick. Answer.”
“I’m going to go with coffee.”
“That wasn’t first on your mind,” Kendrick said.
“Yes, it was.” No, it wasn’t. She was thinking about something she hadn’t thought about in a long time. She was thinking about how fun it would be to wake up with someone else. To reach over and have a living, breathing man in her bed. Not just any man. One man in particular. A man who was warm and sexy with deep brown eyes and a voice as rich as a chocolate sundae. She caressed her neck with her fingertips. “Coffee. That’s my final answer.”
“No thinking,” Kendrick said. “Say the first thing that pops into your head. Pirates or ninjas?”
“Pirates.”
“Best place to go camping?”
“A hotel.”
“What do you wear to bed?”
“Undies and a t-shirt.”
“What are you wearing right now?”
“Undies and a t-shirt,” she repeated. “Yes, I’m in bed.”
“What color t-shirt?”
“Blue. I mean white. The shirt is white. The panties are blue. I mean—arrgh.”
“Yes. Arrgh. We already talked about pirates. Let’s talk about panties some more.”
Emma covered her face. She was so sure he was going to ask about her underwear that she’d blurted out the color. The questions were getting her flustered. But she had to admit, she liked being flustered like this. It made her breath come faster, her skin flush, and her nerve endings crackle. She touched her belly and her ribs, lightly brushing the skin under her t-shirt.
“Is thong underwear comfortable?” Kendrick asked.
“No idea.”
“Sexiest dream you ever had?”
“Tom Ellis and Tom Hiddleston. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.”
“Interesting.” Kendrick inhaled a quick breath. “Do you want to know what I’m wearing?”
“Do you want to tell me?”
“I thought I was the one asking the questions,” Kendrick said. “If you were to undress me, what would you take off first?”
“Your watch,” Emma said.
“I don’t wear a watch.”
“Well, then,” Emma said. “I guess you’ll have to undress yourself.”
“Sure.” Kendrick paused. She heard rustling. Was he actually doing it? She gripped the sheets, waiting for him to go on, straining to hear every nuance.
“Tell me, Emma.” Kendrick’s voice was soft and measured. It slid into her, arousing every sense. “What’s the one place you love to be kissed? The secret place that no one else knows?”
