Could he move that far from her? Long-distance relationships were difficult in the best of circumstances, and with his ear issues and his career up in the air, circumstances were far from the best. A forty-five-minute drive was nothing. Nothing! Some people did it five days a week for work. But it was only nothing if you had a driver’s license and a car.

He picked up his phone, navigated to the FaceTime app, and called his cousin.

Mitch answered immediately, his face blooming onto the screen. It looked like he was parked somewhere, as if he’d pulled off the road to take the call. “If you’re FaceTiming me, it’s serious.”

“It’s not serious,” Kendrick said. “I just have a question.”

“Go ahead.”

“I don’t want to sell my house.”

“Sure, all right.” Mitch’s eyebrows came together as he wrinkled his forehead in confusion.

“But if I did want to sell it, how much could I get for it?”

Mitch’s frown deepened. “Why are you asking that?”

“How much, Mitch?” Kendrick pressed.

Mitch looked out his car window for a moment, and then back at his phone. “Those houses on Cricket Lane are unique, so I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head, but I’m sure I could come up with a price by the end of the day today.”

“Do it.”

“But I’d have to pretend I was actually opening up a listing. I’d have to run it through my system as if you were selling it.”

“As long as we don’t have a contract, I’m not obligated to anything. Am I?”

“Not unless you honestly want to list it.”

“I don’t,” Kendrick said. “I just want to know what I’m giving up by living in Cannondale.”
