“I so appreciate you coming, but I hate that I interrupted whatever you’re dressed so beautifully for.”

“A date,” she said, “but he fully understood. And we’ll just reschedule.”

“A date with who?” Logan asked.

Again, all three of them shifted their gaze to Logan.

“What?” He shrugged. “I’m just curious.”

Emmy looked over at him with a smile. “I don’t ask about your dating life.”

“I share about my dating life.”

“We know,” Em said, “but not lately. Someone serious, perhaps?”

“Maybe I haven’t been on a date lately,” he said, slipping his hands into his well-tailored trousers.

Emmy laughed.

Logan didn’t blink.

Emmy stopped and gave him that quizzical stare of hers. “You not date for more than a couple days?”

“Okay, folks, let’s focus,” Noah said.

Brooke wanted to swat him. She wanted to see Emmy’s and Logan’s verbal jousting play out. But he was the boss.

“Sorry,” Emmy said.

“My fault,” Logan said. “I’ll head to the station and get started running the sketch.”

“I appreciate that. I’d say wait until morning, but finding this man is critical.”

Brooke studied Noah, not missing the worry in his eyes. He feared for her. She feared for herself now that she could identify the man in command.

“And I’ll get started on the video footage,” Emmy said, uncrossing her legs and standing.

“How did you—” Noah began.

“Ris told me.”

“Again, I’d say wait until morning, but . . .”

“I’m on it,” Emmy said.

Noah handed her the black video storage box.

“I guess I’ll work at the station too,” Em said, shifting her gaze to Logan, who hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her, “if you don’t mind giving me a ride in. My date dropped me off here.”

“No problem,” he said. “And when you’re ready to head home, I’ll take you.”

“Thanks.” She turned back to Brooke. “I’m so glad you’re okay.” She leaned down and gave her a hug.

Brooke hugged her friend back.

“I hope you’re able to find something,” Noah said.

“Hopefully we’ll get a plate number or at least a better look at the van,” Emmy said. “We’re getting closer, Noah. I can feel it.”
