One of his big hands stroked her back. “The same way you healed me and the men: by instinct.”

“No, I can’t…” her voice trailed off as she saw how he was looking at her. “All right. So I heal wounds by singing things I can’t hear and that I don’t know I’m singing.”

“You’ll know now, love.” Ryan looked all over her new face. “There are other mysteries we must solve. One of your parents was not Cloudstar, I think. They have the fairest coloring among the Fae. We will have to trace your bloodlines.”

“Christine and I are pretty sure that my mother died.” She told him what her sister had learned from her social worker. “If my Fae father is still alive, why would he leave me to be raised by my human dad? Especially considering what I can do.”

“I cannot say, but if you were my daughter, nothing in this realm or any other could keep me from you.” He lifted her hand to his mouth, and kissed her palm. “All I may tell you is that I am not your father.”

Kayla winced. “Boy, wouldn’t that be the worst.” Her jeans and shirt felt odd against her skin now, and she glanced down at herself. “Do you think anything else on my body has changed?”

Ryan circled one of her buttons with a fingertip. “We could have a look.” When she nodded he set her on her feet and began undressing her. “Your hair is beautiful, and your ears are delightful. Your skin has the luster of pearls. You must stop wearing clothing with buttons.” He undid the rest with a jerk of his hand.

“It’s a shame we can’t use thought-spell here,” Kayla said. “Still, I don’t mind the old-fashioned way. Think of it as unwrapping a gift.”

“When I see you I cannot think.” He stripped away her blouse and kissed her shoulder. “I should have realized you were Fae from your effect on me.”

Once he removed her bra Kayla saw that her breasts had not grown any larger, but her nipples had lightened to the palest of blush pinks. Her navel had acquired a small dimple beneath its lower curve, too. Once she stepped out of her boots and jeans she saw all her body hair had vanished except for the neat thatch over her sex, which looked silkier and had lighter colors streaking the curls.

“No surprise tentacles,” she said, and chuckled as she held out her arms and turned around for him. “What do you think? Am I good-looking for a Fae gal?” When he didn’t answer her she glanced over her shoulder and saw him staring at her shoulders. “Don’t tell me there’s a tail back there.”

“You have a mark.” He reached out and traced his fingers over her spine. “It is blue, and shaped like a crescent moon.” His hand fell away as she turned around to face him. “Fae are born unmarked, so your parents must have bestowed it on you for some reason.”

“My own ink. Christine is going to be so jealous.” She slipped into his arms, and where their skins touched they glowed. She also felt a new, tingling warmth spreading through her from every spot where her body pressed against his. “You have on too many clothes now, and we haven’t done anything to celebrate our victory.”

Ryan’s arms tightened for a moment, and when he spoke his tone sounded strained.

“You are full-blooded Fae, Kayla. You belong with your kin, not me.”

She tilted her head. “And yet here I am. You forgot, I picked you.”

“I have not forgotten, and your choice was made when we thought you might be a halfling.” His broad shoulders lifted and fell with his sigh. “Now that we know you are Fae, and a spellsinger, I am obliged to take you to your mother’s clan. They will know what happened to your father, and why your mother cursed you to seem mortal.”

“We can’t do that tonight, not with the Blackstones regrouping out there.” She attacked his clothes, undressing him until they were both bare. Where their skins touched more bright heat kindled. “You know, I’d really like to have you as my clan leader.” She stroked the satiny bulge of his bicep before giving him a mischievous look. “Then I can say things like, ‘What is your will, my lord?’ and ‘How may I serve you, my liege?’”

“You cannot serve me. You were never cast out by your clan.” He watched her press a line of soft kisses across his chest. “You have broken no laws. You were hidden, not shunned, and if you do not stop that I will forget to be noble and show you my every desire.”

“I like you better naked and not so noble.” Kayla licked her tongue over one of his hard, flat nipples and swept her thumb back and forth over the other. “Will they kick me out of the Fae for serving you in ye olde sacred grove?”

“The Cloudstar might, if they find us here.” His sapphire eyes shifted down to her tight-peaked breasts, and watched how she was rubbing them against the lower vault of his chest. “But Devalan knows naught of you, so we may stay a few hours.”

While she kept her gaze locked with his, she lowered herself to her knees. She put her mouth to his thigh, which tightened under her lips, and bit him gently before tipping her head back.

“Showtime, my man.”

Instead of taking advantage of her position, Ryan knelt with her so they were face-to-face.

“No fern to be had tonight, my lady.” He took her by the arms and bent back, lifting her above him as he stretched out on the smooth trunks that formed the living floor. “I will be your bed now.”

Kayla stretched out on top of him, savoring the feel of her petite form atop his big, tough body.

“You’re a little lumpy, pal.”

She wriggled down until her breasts cradled his thick shaft, and pressed her mounds against it so that he lay trapped between her curves.

“That feels nice,” she murmured.

She massaged him with her breasts, moving over him so that his heavy cock thrust in and out of the soft, tight space. When his bulbous tip grazed her chin she bent her head to kiss the hot, straining dome. On the next stroke she gave him a slow, wet lick, making him groan out loud.
