Something in his expression changed. He was always soft and gentle, but it was there more than ever as he stared down at me. “You’ve never said that back to me before.”
I swallowed thickly, giving up our spot at the barrier and pulling him off to the side of the stage, where nobody stood because the view was terrible.
But the only view I wanted was him.
He stood there, right there in front of me, looking like the man I wanted for the rest of my life. “I was waiting for you to realize I’m just a club girl.”
He frowned at that. “You’ve never been that to me.”
I leaned my forehead against his bare chest, inhaling the scent of his skin while I pressed my lips to him. And then I laughed. “You really named our future baby?”
He chuckled and grinned down at me. “Babies, actually.”
I widened my eyes. “How many are we having?”
“At least four.”
I blinked. “Four? Are you serious?”
“Deadly. Everleigh. Delilah. Tanzie. And Lulu.”
“We’re having four girls? You don’t want a boy?”
He gripped my chin. “I don’t care. As long as you’re their mother.”
“You’re insane,” I whispered to him, high on everything he was. I pushed up on my toes to kiss his mouth.
“Not insane,” he murmured over my lips. “I just know what I want. And that’s you. It’s been you since the moment we met.”
I shook my head. “You don’t even know what it’s like to be with other women.”
He stared at me like I’d just said the stupidest thing ever, a little bit of anger, which was so unusual for him, creeping in. “You think I need to fuck someone else to appreciate what I have right here?”
I shrugged, knowing full well I was self-sabotaging because I’d been rejected so many times in the past I didn’t know any other feeling. “I don’t know. Maybe.”
He glared at me. “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. The only person I’m fucking tonight, or any night, is you, Kiki. When the hell are you going to believe that? How many times do I have to say I love you before you know it’s true? I’m not going anywhere.” He gripped both sides of my face, tilting it until there was nothing but the raging truth in his eyes. “I have no money. No house of my own. No ring. Nothing to fucking offer you other than me. But I’ve always been yours. Not because you were my first. But because you were always going to be my last.”
My eyes filled with tears that spilled down over his hands. “What are you saying?” I whispered, forgetting where we were. Forgetting there were thousands of people in this open field, with bands playing, and carnival rides.
And this beautiful man, saying everything I’d ever dreamed of, and me unable to believe any of it was really happening.
“I’m saying I don’t need a ring on your finger to know you’re my girl. But if you do—”
“I don’t,” I said in a rush, and found I really meant it. Because the raw honesty in Kyle’s expression, in his voice, in the way he touched me, was all I needed.
He grinned. “You want to be my old lady, Kiki?”
A smile spread across my face, because that was a marriage proposal by club standards.
And it was the easiest yes I’d ever given.

CHIRP
Herb threw his hands up in the air, his beer sloshing over the edge of his paper cup, a few droplets spraying over both me and Amber.
She scowled at him and wiped the sticky spray off her bare arm. “Herb! That’s the third time you’ve done that!”
