“The tables?” She walked toward the kitchen and peeked inside. “Where the hell are your pots?”
I sighed. “Grandma.”
She opened a drawer. “Silverware gone too?”
I closed my eyes.
“Lord have mercy.” She came back into the living room. “Did somebody rob your ass politely?”
I wanted to laugh.
“Because they left the baby stuff.” She replied.
“Grandma…” I tried to explain.
“And apparently your clothes.” She looked toward my bedroom. “What are you sleeping on?”
“The bed.”
She nodded. “Well, praise Jesus the burglar had a heart.”
I couldn’t help it and a laugh slipped out. Grandma wasn’t laughing. She put the grocery bag down. “Where is Malik at?”
My smile disappeared. “He… busy.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Busy doing what?”
“Just stuff.” I shrugged.
“What stuff?” She asked.
“I don’t know, work.”
She stared at me and I looked away.
“Shante.”
“What?” I answered.
“You're lying.”
“No, I’m not.”
Grandma Lorraine sucked her teeth. “Girl, please. I raised you.”
I folded my arms. “Malik just took some stuff.”
“Some?” She pointed around the apartment. “That nigga took everything but oxygen.”
I covered my mouth because I wanted to laugh again.
Grandma stepped closer. “What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Shante.”
“I’m good, Grandma.”
