“Liz, this job is everything you want. After that douchebag cheated on you, I knew you didn’t want to stay in Florida.” She chuckled. “Besides, you’ve never been able to hide your feelings for crap. I know you were in love after the first time you mentioned him.”

“I’m that predictable?”

“Only to people who love you. We were roomies for three years. I know everything, even about your lucky Eeyore undies.”

Liz laughed. “I love you, too. And I can’t wait to come visit.”

“But it’s only a visit. Are you bringing your hot cop along?”

“He is hot and so much more.” But if Liz wanted to book those tickets with confidence that he was coming with her, she better go find him and straighten out this mess now. “I have to go. He was just here and overheard us talking. I think he misunderstood.”

“Well, go get your man. I’ll call you next week.”

Claire was right. Liz ended the call, turned off the oven, and grabbed her coat. She was going to get her man.

She called Jim as she walked to her car. It when straight to voicemail.

“Jim, we need to talk. You misunderstood my conversation with my friend. Call me. I’m on my way to your house. See you soon.” She bit her lip before continuing. “I love you.”

A second later, her phone beeped. She answered. “Jim.”

“No, it’s Mira. Harrison and I are on our way over to check on you guys. I wanted to see if you needed us to pick anything up for you. Wine, perhaps?”

“You two are so sweet. I’m heading out at the moment.”

“To find Jim. What did he do? I know, I’m psychic.”

A laugh pushed its way through her tight chest. “Yes, you must be.”

“Want to talk about it?” Mira’s voice switched from laughing to serious. “I can ditch Harrison and call the girls. We can meet you.”

“I’m afraid I screwed up. I’m sure as soon as we talk it out, everything will be fine.” She hoped so. Jim’s trust had been broken before along with his heart. If he’d thought she had lied to him or used him, it could take ages to breach his walls again and gain his trust. “Can I have a raincheck on the girl’s night?”

“Absolutely, I’ll make Harrison take me to dinner instead. And Liz, if Jim doesn’t realize how great you two are together, I’ll gladly enlighten him to the errors of his ways. AKA, his pigheadedness.”

Liz couldn’t contain the smile that crossed her face. She was blessed to have made such caring friends. “He wouldn’t stand a chance against you. See you later.”

She ended the call and put her car in gear. Look out Jim, we are going to talk this out.

Was his place on Portland or Plymouth?

Oh well, it didn’t matter, she could drive there. She pulled up at the corner a house down and stopped. Left? Right? She was just there and she couldn’t remember which street he lived on. God, she was cursed when it came to directions.

Thank God for GPS. Now if she only had his address. CJ would have it. She reached for her phone, then stopped. “I really need a hands-free unit for my car.”

She pulled over and called her cousin.

“Lizzie, everything alright?” The concern rung clear in his voice.

“I need Jim’s address.” She waited.

Finally, CJ responded. “Why don’t you ask him?”

He was going to make her say Jim wasn’t here. “He’s not answering his phone.”

“He should be there by now. Damn it. He shouldn’t have been back to work yet. I can look for him.”

“No. He was here and left.” She winced, waiting for his reaction.
