Her chest fell, and she flopped back on the bed. “I’ll live. Are those for me, or do you have a date later?”
“I only bring flowers for my best girls.” He handed them to her. “Besides, my date is allergic.”
Amy chuckled. She grabbed the water pitcher, removed the lid, and stuck the flowers inside. “Well, her loss. They’re beautiful.”
“You too, but boy, an oven explosion isn’t the best for your complexion.”
She threw a spare pillow at him.
“In all seriousness though, I’m glad you’re alright. But really, what are the odds Adam’s oven would explode?”
“Looking at his place, I’d give it a fifty-fifty chance something would explode, but not that oven. It was electric.”
His eyes popped wide. “Really? The fire investigator hasn’t given his final report yet, but word floating around the station is faulty oven. Well, that’s a stupid perp to rig a bomb in an electric oven if you wanted it to look like a gas explosion.”
“I think they were hoping it would burn to the ground and they wouldn’t realize it wasn’t gas.”
Ryan sat on the edge of the bed. “They didn’t count on you being there.”
“Guess not.” She reached for her medallion but came up empty. Her hand dropped to the bed.
“Have you given an official statement yet?”
“Nope. I was pretty out of it last night. You’re the first person I’ve seen today that didn’t have a lab coat or scrubs on.”
“No Trey? I thought I’d run into him here.”
Amy shook her head.
“Oh no, trouble in Tre-Amyland?”
“Shut up.” She winced as she readjusted. “There was no Tre-Amy. We did that so he could spy on everyone.”
“Bullshit.”
Her eyes narrowed but waited to let the daggers fly.
“I saw you two with my own eyes. In his apartment, remember. It was a clothing optional night you were having when I came in.”
“That was just sex.”
“If you say so.”
His expression called bullshit. Maybe he was right. She’d thought so too, but something inside her told her there was a flag on the play. It was crazy. She wasn’t a girl who freaked if a guy didn’t call or text every hour.
She shook it off. “Anyway, I’m sure he is busy.”
A loud knock jerked her attention to the door. Trey strolled in.
She hated that her stomach jumped. “Hey.”
His face was hard and his gaze slid to Ryan then back to her. “Daniels, give us a minute.”
Wanting time alone should be a good thing, but that didn’t sound good. His tone reminded her of her sergeant calling her into his office.
Ryan leaned in to hug her. He whispered, “Trouble in Tre-Amyland.”
She slapped his arm as he scooted off the bed.
