“Fenley, what is it?” CJ snagged his arm.

“She’s not safe. Bob knew on Friday. He told me at the hospital before he had been in to see Amy.” He pulled out his phone and called her.

“Pick up. Pick up.” It went to voicemail. “Fuck.”

Jim and CJ stood as well.

“She was being released this morning.” Jim was a step behind him. Pulling out his phone. “I’ll see if she was released yet.”

He called Tommy.

“Hey, Trey.”

“Are you with Amy?”

“No, I just left. She’s at her apartment. What happened? She’s pissed at you.”

“I’ll explain later. Stay with her and Tommy, don’t let anyone in until I get there.”

“Okay, but…”

“No, I mean it. No one gets in. Not even cops. No one. I’ll be there soon.” He ended the call and raced out the door.

CJ and Jim caught up to him at the elevator. “We’ll find Bob. Are you sure?”

“He knew. He’s average height and the right age and he has access to the drug used to kill Finden.”

CJ nodded and when the doors slid open, they bolted.

In the car, Trey’s phone buzzed.

“Tommy?”

“She’s gone.”

Trey’s hands clenched the steering wheel. He forced his brain to think. “Is her purse gone?”

“No.”

Fuck. “Her gun? Car keys?”

“Yes, both.”

Where would she go? Knowing Amy, there was only one place she’d go, just out of the hospital or not. She’d want answers.

He whipped the car around and headed to Gardiner’s.

Prayer didn’t come easy to him these days but one flew from his lips. “Please let me get there in time.”

Chapter 22

Amy’s arm ached when she cut the steering wheel to the right, sending the car careening into the parking lot. The restaurant didn’t open for another hour, but she knew Paulie would be there.

The slam of the car door reverberated in her ears. Amy checked her holster as she stomped up to the back door.

“Paulie, I know you’re in there. Your fancy foreign car is in the lot.” Amy banged on the steel door with her good arm.

Thirty seconds later, the door swung open.
