By the time Amy walked back into the police station at the end of her shift, she was ready to drop. The air conditioning felt so good. As she walked to her desk, she started removing her tactical vest.

A deep laugh came from her cubicle.

She stopped mid-zip.

No, it couldn’t be.

She rounded the wall and froze. “What are you doing here?”

With a grace she envied, he slipped from her chair and moved to her. “Is that any way to greet your Sweetie?”

Her teeth clenched. She canvassed the area. Swenson sat at the next desk. Lowering her voice, she all but growled. “Why are you here, Sweetheart?”

Another deep laugh rolled out of him. He moved in close and snaked an arm around her waist. The low voice, only for her, had chills dancing up her arm. “I see you’re still working on the whole relationship thing.”

She whispered back. “You mean, fake relationship.”

He dropped his head and nuzzled her ear. Strands of her hair snagged on his five-o’clock shadow. Sensation buzzed. She started to push him away, but she caught movement to her left. Peterson. With less effort than she would have thought, she relaxed into his embrace.

“Hey you two, let's keep it G-rated at work. If you want to sex it up, try the holding cells.”

“So romantic, Peterson.” Amy rolled her eyes.

“I think it’s a good idea.” Trey slid a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Then dipped lower to nuzzle her neck. His voice, barely a breath. “I’m interested in seeing the scene of the crime.”

She played along. Hooked her fingers with his and led him down the hall. Jibes and whistles followed them.

They turned the corner, and she dropped his hand. “You realize I’ll get shit for weeks now.”

“We’ll be quick.”

“That will make it worse.”

“I’ll take care of it.”

They entered the holding area and Trey’s whole demeanor changed. Gone was the sexy, doting boyfriend. The sharp BCA agent took his place. He surveyed the office and surveillance monitors, the cells themselves, right down to the locks. He pulled out his phone and snapped a few photos.

“What do you think?” Amy leaned against the door jam, keeping a lookout.

“I have photos, and I will eventually need to interview everyone, but this gives me a visual.”

“Daniels, three o’clock.”

Trey was at her side in two steps. He cupped her face and before she could think, dropped his lips to hers. She blinked. Then as if instinct took over, she relaxed into him and her eyelids closed.

Her hands fisted in his shirt as the gentle kiss lingered. Soft butterfly touches that stroked the desire in her belly.

“Seriously, you two need to get a room. Isn’t your shift done, Larson?” Daniels’ voice broke through the trance.

Amy pulled back from Trey, dazed. She blinked away the confusion and looked at her watch. “Uh, yeah. I have a couple things to finish, then I’m out of here.”

“I heard there was a B and E at your place last night. Good thing you weren’t home. Is there anything I can do?”

“I need to fix my door.”

Trey cleared his throat. “I took care of that this morning. The locksmith was there before noon.”

“Oh, thanks.” She wasn’t sure what to say about that.
