“You think this is funny? My mom is excited that I actually brought a boyfriend home.”

“Okay, but what does my sister have to do with it?”

“Who’s your sister?”

“Brie.”

The gorgeous color that flooded her face in her anger drained in ten seconds flat. “College Barbie is your sister? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“What did you call her?” He snickered. “I’ll have to start calling her that.”

“Don’t change the subject. You could have told me.”

“That Brie is my sister? I thought you knew.”

“How? You let me think she was your girlfriend.”

“I never said she was my girlfriend and you never asked. You Googled me. I thought you would have seen her name in one of the articles.”

She swatted his arm again. “No.”

This time, he grabbed her hand and pulled her to him.

“Amy, I never would have kissed you if I had a girlfriend. What kind of asshole do you think I am?”

“Sorry.” It came out in a whisper, but he heard it loud and clear.

She blinked those big blue eyes up at him and he caved. His lips closed over hers and they melted together.

Tommy cleared his throat. “Are you coming back to dinner? Mom won’t let us eat until you do.”

They broke the kiss but didn’t move apart. Amy spoke first. “We’ll be there in a minute.”

Her brother went inside and they were alone again. Lips an inch apart. Eyes locked on one and other.

“We should go in.” His voice rough as gravel.

“We will. In a minute. I’m sorry.” Her lips rose to meet his.

The gentle kiss of a minute ago was gone. Her lips explored his mouth and down the column of his throat, then back. If this was a taste of what they could have, he was ready to skip dinner all together and head back to his place. But that would be rude and his momma didn’t raise him to be rude. With great regret, he stepped back.

“Let’s bookmark this for later.”

Her breathing sawed in and out, as did his. She blinked away the lust in her eyes and nodded. “You’re right. We should get back.”

She opened the door, and he followed. Amy stopped him before they entered the dining room. “By the way, go light on the onions. I don’t like them.”

Then she entered the room as if nothing had happened.

He sat down, and Brie passed the veggies. He declined the onions.

Chapter 13

Trey walked into the BCA office on Monday. He waved to Charlie but his mind bounced between the Ashwood case and Amy.

He shouldn’t have kissed her last night. No one was around, so he couldn’t even claim it was for show. But no way he’d take it back, especially after she took control.

He rubbed his lips together. The ghost of their kiss tingled. No matter how much Trey wanted a repeat of those few moments, he couldn’t. He had to halt this thing growing between them. Second thoughts were a bitch and he wasn’t the only one having them. Amy’s mood had cooled by the time they walked up the stairs to their apartments.
