“Were you nervous?”

“No. Why would I be nervous?”

“Because you’re attracted to him.”

“How about we talk about the meeting with Edward?”

But Nick wasn’t about to let him off that easily. “What cabin is he in?”

“Edward? He’s in his office, not a cabin.”

“Cute.” She started typing on the keyboard. “Come on, what cabin is he in?”

“Why do you want to know so bad?”

She gave him an exasperated look. “Let me live vicariously through you. Okay?”

Reece rolled his eyes. “Fine. His name is Welton Monroe, and he’s—”

“Cabin five of the Spruce group. Got it.”

“Dammit you type fast.”

Nick typed a bit more. “He’s not signed up for any activities.” She gave him a sly grin. “Yet.”

“No.” Reece held up a finger. “You are not going to sign him up for anything without his approval.”

“Oh, I’m sure he’ll approve, once he sees who’s running the activity.” She looked at him with raised eyebrows. “What did Edward have to say?”

“He let me know he’s going to observe Graham and I running each other’s activities, and Christmas Eve he’s going to have us run one of the activities the other submitted all on our own. He’ll decide who gets the promotion from all of that and make his decision after New Year’s.” Reece crossed his arms and gave her a wide-eyed look. “So, all that work I put into notes for what supplies and instructions are needed? Wasted. It’s going to help Graham run my activities with no problem whatsoever.”

“While you get stuck trying to understand how Graham’s activity is supposed to run? Oh, that’s not fair.”

“Thank you. I don’t think it’s fair, either. Edward’s going to judge us on our level of interaction, preparedness, and guest participation.”

“Well, dammit,” Nick said. “I was going to convince your crush to join in on your activities so you’d be sure to get the job.” She cocked her head and held up her index finger. “Actually, that would still work out. We just need to know what activities you’ll be running.”

“Nick, don’t interfere with this.”

“Aren’t I the one who convinced you to go for this job?” Nick said.

“Yes, but—”

“And aren’t I the one who listened to all of your ideas for activities and even did test runs on some of the games?”

“Yes, and I thank you for that, but—”

“And aren’t I the one who’s always on the lookout for some guy who’s just your type?”

“Oh, this sounds deliciously salacious.”

Reece started and saw Nick jump as well before both of them turned. Graham Robertson stood behind them, a satisfied smirk on his spray-tanned face and a cloud of citrus scent enveloping them.

“Hi, Graham,” Nick said, her tone flat and devoid of any emotion. “I see you’re getting top marks in your How to Creep Up on People Having a Conversation class.”

Graham’s smile was more of a sneer. “Such a charming wit. Too bad there’s no man to appreciate it.”

“Did you need something, Graham?” Reece said. “You’re not on the schedule for another few hours.”
