“I don’t need a local geography lesson from a sassy reporter,” Lucia snapped.

“Again, not a reporter,” Ollie muttered, then sat back and crossed his arms.

“What the hell were you doing in the woods, Bower?” Lucia asked.

“Looking for something. But that’s really not the point. We were attacked by an old woman who was acting like the other person we’ve been discussing.”

“You can say it’s the mayor,” Ollie said. “Everyone in town knows about it.”

“Goddammit, Bower,” Lucia said.

“It wasn’t me, I swear!”

“Yeah, I didn’t hear it from him or Demetrius,” Ollie said, and Cody was grateful for that, anyway, even if Ollie usually annoyed the hell out of him.

“No matter how the rumors are being spread, there’s a new person to deal with now, in pretty much the same spot as the other one.”

“The mayor,” Ollie said, slightly under his breath.

“All right. I’ll go out there and look around.” Lucia blew out a breath. “You and that husband of yours had better figure this out pretty fucking quick.”

“Oh, is the city hiring us for a job?” Cody said, looking over at Ollie with raised eyebrows. “Did I hear that right?”

“Asshole,” Lucia muttered, then disconnected the call.

“You two really have a good relationship, don’t you?” Ollie said.

“You said something about your car being back at the cemetery?”

“Fine, I’ll be quiet.”

“Hallelujah.”

“But, just know this…”

“And the miracle of his silence has ended, just like that.”

“If there’s two zombies stomping around the woods, you’re going to have a lot more really soon.”

“You’re comparing zombies to rabbits?”

“Pretty much.” Ollie made a face. “Just without any fucking. Yuck. Not a good mental image.”

“Yeah, thanks for putting that in my head now, too.”

When they reached the cemetery, Cody drove slowly along the winding asphalt path through the grounds until he saw Ollie’s metallic blue Ford EcoSport parked off on the grass. He pulled up behind and shut off the engine.

“Why’d you start following the creek?”

Ollie shrugged. “I had a hunch.”

“That’s it? Just a hunch?”

“Yeah. Don’t you ever get those?”

“I’m getting one now.” Cody grinned as Ollie glared.

“Anyway…” Ollie opened his door. “Thanks for the ride.”
