“I don’t know, jackass.”
“Language, Tyler!”
“Sorry, Mom.”
I watched Ty, expectantly, hoping he’d like my gifts.
“It’s so small,” Ty said, revealing his first present.
“Works for me,” I said with a grin.
“What is it?” Pierce yelled again.
“A swimsuit,” Ty answered.
“Is it a thong? It looks like a spaghetti noodle.”
“It’s a speedo. What are you doing, writing a family report?”
“Scrapbook, bro.”
Ty ignored Pierce and went to open the envelope.
“A trip? You're taking me to Palm Springs?”
“I want someone to take me away!” Pierce said.
Ty’s other family members seemed happy, and someone smothered Pierce with a pillow to let us have a moment.
I smiled. “I’d like to see you wear your new swimsuit there…unless you don’t want to wear anything.”
“It’s a nude resort?”
“It is if you don’t wear anything, and I didn’t think you of all people would mind.”
“I feel like I should be offended, but you’re probably right.” He leaned in. “But I don’t think anyone will be looking at me if you’re there.”
“So, you like it?”
Ty leaned over, our bodies touching, and rubbed his head on my shoulder. “I love it. I’m, uh…a little excited about it, in fact.”
I glanced down to see Ty trying to hide his crotch. He shifted his weight, and pulled a leg up onto one knee to block the view from everyone else.
“Happy to help.”
“I’m not sure that qualifies as help, Dec.”

“That’s a wrap, gentlemen. Nice work,” I said to the boys. It was our last practice before spring break. “You should’ve all received the training plan for the next week. No apparatus work, but keep up with your flexibility exercises and strength work.”
“You doing anything fun on break, Coach?” Sawyer, a promising bar specialist, asked.
“Heading to Palm Springs actually.” I didn’t see the point in hiding.
