I’m not sure why I was nervous.

That was a lie.

I really needed this guy to like me since, like Gareth said, there weren’t many affordable options. College was already back in session, which filled up most of the affordable apartments nearby. I wasn’t strapped, but I also didn’t make a ton of money either. All it took was one or two clients to decide they didn’t need a personal trainer and I’d have to get a second job. Again.

“Be cool. He’s a nice guy.” Gareth tried to sound reassuring.

“I just hope the kid likes me.”

“Henry’s not home today. You’re just meeting the dad.” Gareth rang the doorbell, and I tried to look friendly.

After a few seconds, the door opened to reveal a man shorter than me – not surprising considering my height – with dark brown hair, a little bit of scruff, and brown eyes that-

Holy shit!

-had looked up at me while sucking my dick!

I froze. Jesus Christ, this was embarrassing. I pulled out and shot the rest of my load all over him and left! His polo was fucking wrecked after I was done. We needed to go, and now!

“Gareth! Great to see you again.” The guy pulled Gareth in for a hug and he kept smiling at me, which was weird. “This must be Jack. Wow…you must play basketball. I bet everyone says that.” He held his hand out.

I shook it. “Uh…yeah.”

Even with his small frame, he pulled me into the house before letting go. He was wearing another polo, which now that it was better lit, I could see he filled out.

“You didn’t tell me he was so tall.”

I was still at a loss for words.

“Didn’t think to mention it, Clayton,” Gareth said. “Shit, where are my manners? Clayton, Jack. Jack, Clayton.”

Ow. Gareth had elbowed me. “Nice to meet you.” I held out my hand, then pulled it back. “We already did that.” I laughed nervously.

Does he seriously not remember?

“Well, I suppose you want to see where you’d be sleeping,” Clayton said.

Either he was pretending he didn’t remember, or he actually didn’t remember. I wasn’t sure which was worse.

Instinctively, I followed him through the living room to the basic gray kitchen. God, I was going to miss the apartment. Gareth and I had painted the walls with so many colors over the years, and now I was moving into a soulless dentist’s office. I bet the remodeled basement was the same.

“The door’s here. There’s also a backdoor if you’d rather use that.”

I bit my tongue and refused to look at Gareth as I walked past him. I didn’t need to blow this.

The basement wasn’t…bad.

It was carpeted and the walls were blue. There were small windows that let in a little bit of light along three of the walls, and the fourth wall had a full bathroom and a padlocked room next to it.

“What’s in there?” I asked.

“Just some storage.” Clayton shrugged. “I’m not sure what you have, but you could always set up a kitchenette down here. Like, a mini fridge and microwave or whatever. That is, if you decide to move in.” We climbed back up the stairs. “I meant to ask if you like cats? We have one, an older girl. She hides in Henry’s room most of the time.”

“Yeah, cats are fine.” I confirmed the price and walked out the back door to see the backyard, but I was sold. It was private enough that I could come and go as I pleased. And, like Gareth said, affordable.

“I think I’m leaning that way.”

“Excellent.” Clayton clasped his hands together. “Want a beer to celebrate?”
