“To be clear, I love you as more than friends. More than when I’ve said it before. Like, I’m not asking you to marry me or anything, but I want you to know that I have serious feelings for you.”

“Finally!”

“What do you mean? Finally?” Both Teo and I asked Jake.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment all semester,” he answered. “I can tell it’s working. I already feel different.”

“What are you talking about?”

“This is what I’ve been trapped here for. This was my mission.”

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Teo asked.

“It doesn’t work that way.”

“How does it work then?”

We waited for an answer.

“Jake?” I called out to the darkness.

There was only the sound of our breathing.

He was gone.

“That was–”

“Weird,” I interrupted. “And as for what you said, I feel the same way. I’m sorry I didn’t come out sooner, but honestly, it was hard being in love with a straight guy.”

“Not so straight actually.”

“I didn’t know–” I couldn’t finish because Teo’s lips were on mine.

It was a short kiss but it felt different now that our feelings were out there.

“I regret not realizing sooner that my love for you was more than friendship.” Teo rested his head on my chest. I felt his hand move to my stomach, teasing my belly button.

“I always knew we had a special friendship,” I said.

“It’s just even better now that we have physical intimacy as well,” Teo added.

“Oooh, physical intimacy,” I teased. “You sound like a sex therapist.”

“We just confessed our love for each other. I was trying to be a little more romantic in the moment. At least you can fuck me now. Is that better?”

“You can say whatever you want. I’ll keep fucking you.” I leaned over to turn on the light and pulled my nightstand drawer open to grab something. I handed the piece of paper to Teo.

“What’s this?”

“Open it.”

Teo read it aloud. “I had a great time. This is…my handwriting?”

“Yup,” I admitted. “You’re not the only sentimental romantic here. I saved it–”

“After my playoff game, when we got drunk and I left you at the hotel,” Teo finished for me. “It’s cute that you have this.”

“What can I say? I’m just a super cute guy who also had a great time that night.”
