Zach hadn’t been alone in the tower with some dude.
CHAPTER 10
ZACHARY
YOU'VE GOT A NICE DICK?
What the fuck was I thinking? Why didn’t I just say, ‘Wow, your dick is absolutely gorgeous. Want to do gay stuff with me?’
I made for my desk, attempting to gather my things up. I needed to get out of here and avoid the embarrassment of looking him in the eye after this fiasco. Closing my laptop, I grabbed my messenger bag and shoved it in.
“Going somewhere, Zach in the box?”
I paused. Teo hadn’t called me that in years. It was on purpose, to put me at ease, and it fucking worked.
“You have clothes on now?”
“Why? Did you enjoy the view?”
“If you’re fishing for a compliment, your ego is already big enough.” I turned, assuming he was dressed, and was rewarded with being correct. “Pants and a shirt. Wow.”
“I didn’t want to overwhelm you.” Teo smiled. “You know, for a gay guy, I thought you’d be a little more okay with seeing a penis. I mean, it can’t be the first one you’ve seen, right?”
“I thought you weren't ready to talk about penises all the time.”
“We’re best friends, Zach. A penis is a penis. Get over it. I’ve seen yours and now you’ve seen mine. We’re still best friends. Can we go grab some snacks and watch a movie or The Office or something?”
Yes! I just wanted to do something normal. As much as I enjoyed seeing Teo naked, something that didn’t involve nudity would probably be better for our friendship at the moment.
“For now, anyway.”
“What’d you say?” Teo asked, walking over to me.
“You heard that?”
Teo nodded, which was a surprise. I hadn’t realized Jake was talking to anyone else.
“That…wasn’t me. That was Jake.”
“Jake? But you said he was on the phone. He’s here?!”
“Yes and no. Jake isn’t really here either. Well, he is, and he isn’t.”
Teo grabbed me by the shoulders, our faces inches apart. “Make some fucking sense, Zach, please.”
“Jake’s…a ghost.”
Teo stared at me for what felt like a minute, his hands still on me, before saying, “Don’t fucking joke with me, Zach. I heard you talking to someone.” His hands squeezed harder.
“I don’t know what to tell you, Teo. I hear a voice sometimes. You heard it just now. He says his name is Jake.” I took a step back, forcing him to let go.
“Sorry, I hope I didn’t hurt you.”
“I’m fine.”
“Okay, so you hear a voice, and there’s no one there?” Teo asked.
I nodded. “I assumed he was a ghost. It’s not like he’s confirmed it.”
