She ignored me. “Aren’t you cold?”
I was sitting at our breakfast bar in some running shorts and a tank top, shoveling scrambled eggs into my mouth. “I’m good.”
She pursed her lips, then answered, “I’m running to the mall to find a few more things for Christmas, then Market Basket. I need to bake a pie for the party tonight.”
“Mind if I join you?” I still needed to find a Christmas present for Zach. Knowing him, he probably bought something for me three months ago that was super thoughtful and exactly what I needed without knowing it.
If he was ever going to take my interest in him seriously, I’d have to find him the perfect gift.
My screen lit up, grabbing my attention. It was a text from Zach.
Zach: Morning, stud.
I smiled, remembering last night’s amazing orgasm. The three fingers up my ass helped, but it was Zach’s teasing and dirty talk that pushed me over the edge. Well that, and imagining him plowing me, holding my ankles, staring into his eyes as he filled me with his–
“You not coming with me anymore?”
“Wh-what?”
“I’m assuming that was Zach,” my mom said, gesturing to my phone. “You doing something with him or are you still coming to the mall?”
“I still need to go to the mall.”
She leaned against the counter with her arms crossed. “Still need to buy a present for your dad?”
Shit.
I was a terrible son. I hadn’t bought either of them anything.
“Yeah.”
Teo: Morning.
I couldn’t have Zach come to the mall with us. How would I get him something if he was with me? Or maybe it would be easier because I could see what he was interested in?
“Damn it,” I muttered.
“What is it, cariño?”
I took a deep breath. “I need to find something for Zach too, but I’m not sure what to get him.”
“He’s your best friend.” She walked over to me and patted my forearm. “You’ll think of something.”
I wanted to say that it had to be special – his gift couldn’t just be anything – but now didn’t seem like the right moment to tell her.
Zach: I’ve got something to tell you.
My fingers couldn’t move fast enough. Was he having second thoughts?
Teo: That sounds incredibly ominous.
Shit. Maybe I shouldn’t have sent that?
Teo: Do I need to come over?
My phone started ringing. It was Zach.
I hopped off the chair, calling out, “I’ll be down in a few minutes, Mom,” then headed up to my room.
