An hour later, after I’d opened the rest of my gifts, I got a text from Dane.

My Husband: Handling some shit, baby. I’ll be back to you ASAP. I love you. Promise to make it up to you.

Maybe it was the I love you that made me hesitate to text Dane back. I couldn’t contain the stupid smile on my face.

Me: I’ll be here when you return.

And I would be. Simply because I was too curious to see if Dane really meant what he said. Judging by the plethora of jewelry, clothes, shoes, and bags he bought me, he was trying his damnedest to convince me of something.

A little while later, since Dane hadn’t returned, I decided to venture to the spa for a massage. When I walked through the doors of the spa, I almost turned around at the sight of Kady and Alexis. I wasn’t intimidated by any means, so I continued to the check-in desk.

“We already have you scheduled for a massage, Mrs. Richards.”

Mrs. Richards, I thought. Dane! His ass was too much.

“Have a seat, and one of our specialists will be right with you,” the attendant stated.

Smiling, I went to an available seat and sat down still tickled by Dane referring to me as Mrs. Richards. I peered out of the wall window at the lush scenery and sparkling water just beyond the walkway. This was the most luxurious spa I’d ever visited. The location alone was breathtaking. It sat on the side of the resort that put the office closest to the water. It was as if I could stick my toe out of the window and dip it in the water. A pier stretched out over the water, and once I was done here, I was going to have to walk it and snap a few pictures.

“So, you and Dane are married? Is that what I heard?” Kady questioned.

Glancing away from the view, the smile on my face faded. Kady and Alexis wore the same stupefied expressions. I was sure they were waiting to spread whatever gossip they thought they stumbled into.

“You know these hoes be lyin’,” Alexis mumbled.

“And do,” Kady seconded. “These niggas for everybody, including Big Dane.” She smirked. “Nigga’s dick is good though.”

I was an artist on top of the world, making more money than I could ever spend, and juggling success that many wished to achieve. Stooping down to either of their levels was insane. Bird-brained shit was too low for me. Keeping my mouth shut and ignoring these two bitches was for the best.

Still, Kady was lucky I let her slide the last time she tried me. She had everyone in the industry thinking she was untouchable and that everyone was afraid of her. This hoe had no idea.

“His dick is good.” Although I hadn’t had the first inch of Dane’s dick, this bitch didn’t know that. “Which is why another bitch will never know what it’s like. My husband is off limits to all you grimy, thirsty hoes. Think I’m bluffing if you want to.”

Alexis scoffed while Kady glared at me.

“I’ma make you eat those words,” she threatened. “I had him once, I’ll have him again.”

I waved her off, not giving a fuck. Being concerned about who Dane fucked before me would be a lost cause and a waste of my time. “Yeah, okay. Shut the fuck up talkin’ to me.” She only had a couple more words before I turned this beautiful resort into a battlefield.

Meanwhile, if word got out that Dane and I were married, I’d know where it stemmed from. The consequences for breaking Onyx Cove Resort’s NDA were stiff. I would face even stiffer concerns if it was broken, though. I wasn’t ready to be another headline, a bigger headline than I already was.

Kady and Alexis continued to mumble under their breaths, but as long as they kept that shit amongst themselves, I ignored that passive-aggressive shit. Neither one of them was going to touch me.

Once my massage was done, I headed back to my suite, changed into a bikini, and hit the beach. Although I was missing Dane, this was exactly how I originally intended to spend my birthday.

Several hours later, as the sun faded, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped my body in a towel. Dane hadn’t returned yet, and part of me worried about him. Another part of me wanted to be upset. Then again, Dane had spent nearly every moment with me these last couple of days. Plus, it was also his mama’s birthday. There was no telling what kept him away. Therefore, I extended him some grace.

Besides, I hadn’t explored the rest of Onyx Cove Resort. After having dessert at Rose’s, the resort's five-star restaurant, I spent the rest of my day penning a new song. Every sun-kissed moment I spent with Dane, I wrote it into a lyric. It was easy to do so.

The rest of the evening, I’d spend on the balcony, poolside.

When I entered the room, my cellphone alerted me that I’d received a message. Since Dane was the only one I waited to get a call or message from, I hurried to it.

My Husband: You sleep yet?

Me: Not yet.

My Husband: I miss you.
