When she sent me her MyChart login, the first thing I scrolled to was her lab work. Swiftly after that, I slid right to her medication chart. Seeing the name of her birth control being the only fucking medication on her chart almost brought tears to my eyes. A nigga was hurt, but I was okay with us slow-walking that step. Well, maybe not slow-walk. More like a hurried stride towards parenthood.

Nonetheless, I checked her mental health screen and her last medical note. Once I established that Justina was cool, I flew to her suite so fucking fast, it might as well have been a magic trick.

My dick sank deeper inside Justina, the sensation euphoric. I positioned her thighs on my shoulders and stared into her eyes as I sank even deeper.

She gasped, and my name fell from her lips. I pulled back slowly, then entered her just as slowly. We both hissed in pleasure, just for me to do it again.

“Dane,” she moaned.

“Mm, hm. This my shit.” By the time I was done with her, she’d know to never give my shit to anyone else. I moved in and out of her at a pace that both tortured and pleasured both of us.

“Fuck!” Her whispered exclamation made my heart tremble. I stared in her seductive eyes and hoped she could see the love in mine.

“You takin’ it so good, baby.” And she was. Her nails dug deeper into my skin, and that only made me take her lips into possession. As our tongues tangled, she moved her hips below me, sparking a fire that I wasn’t prepared for. I growled into her mouth as my spine tingled, and I sped up to chase the feeling she inflicted upon me.

As Justina panted, her pussy gripped me tighter. Seconds later, she erupted, calling my name repeatedly and drawing my own release to the tip.

“Fuck!” I grunted. Sweat dotted my skin, and with each powerful stroke I seemed to fly higher. Toppling over the cliff felt like lightning was striking my body. This was what fucking the woman made for me was supposed to feel like. It was supposed to feel like I could take my last breath inside of it.

An hour later, we were showered and cuddled up in bed. Whatever was on the television wasn’t on my mind. The woman lying next to me was. My fingers tripped along her back, simply because I couldn’t stop touching her. And I hated that I had to dash on her earlier. I missed her birthday but promised to make it up to her.

“Losing someone doesn’t get easier,” I mumbled. “Grief comes whenever it feels like it. A perfect day can quickly turn into a nightmare. Everything goes to shit. That’s what happened today with Hannah.”

Justina’s eyes softened solemnly. “Your mom’s birthday?”

Gulping back emotions, I nodded. “Hannah is a big fan of yours and was glad when she knew I was finally comin’ for you. She told me she’d be fine with me being gone, but I should’ve known better. My sister is strong, but I knew at some point during the day, she would break. Angelo and his wife, Lyla, went to check on Hannah for me and found her…” I choked back another set of tears. Shit. “I had to fly to her and get her some help.”

Justina’s hand smoothed over my chest. “I’m so sorry, Dane. You should’ve stayed with her.”

“Tried to,” I replied. “She threatened my life and told me to get back to you. Angelo and Lyla stayed with her, but I gotta get back to her tomorrow. She’s my only sibling—”

“You don’t have to explain. I understand. Thank you for coming back to me as you promised to do, but I would’ve understood if you couldn’t come back.”

“I made you a promise, Justina. Any promise I ever make to you, I’m gon’ uphold. I gotta attend Kar Tell’s listening party, then head to London. When I come back, I’m all yours.” In fact, I was going to be glued to Justina’s hip.

We fell silent, and I wondered if the future was on her mind like it was on my mind.

“Now that we’re officially a couple—”

Justina chuckled, interrupting me. “Sorry,” she mumbled and stifled a smile. “Continue.”

“Since we’re a couple now, I think it’s time we talk about where we should live. Long distance ain’t gon’ work for me. And I know it won’t work for you either.”

She sighed and agreed. “But don’t you think we’re moving too fast?”

“Nah…” I thought about my mama and how happy she would’ve been for me. “Time is a thief, baby. If you let it, it’ll steal the best moments of ya life. I used to tell myself shit like getting married and having kids wasn’t important. Now, it’s all I can do to keep from thinkin’ about our future.”

Justina stroked my chest and said, “I have a confession to make. You were right about the flowers. I do love them. However, when I was growing up, my father used to always bring my mama flowers. When I got older, I realized that he only brought her flowers when he’d fucked up. He turned beauty into poison and turned something meaningful into something toxic.”

Inwardly, I scowled. I knew there was something deeper behind her aversion to flowers. Armond Knight wasn’t shit. His muthafuckin’ ass was good at divorcing folks and bad at being a role model to his daughter.

“I gotta change the narrative,” I finally replied.

Justina snuggled closer to my side and buried her head against my chest. “While I’m okay with that, can I keep you to myself for a little longer before the media finds out about us? I already had to check Kady and her cousin.”

I’d peeped the tension between Justina and Kady. Plus, I knew they had words in the past. I kissed the top of her head and replied, “Anything for you, baby. But not for long. And you never gotta worry about Kady, or no other bitch.”

“Okay,” she muttered. “What if we live in your Pensacola house? Your mom’s garden has a piece of my heart.”
