“You’re supposed to be in London,” I said without preamble.

“That’s what this is? You waited ‘til I left the country to pull some bullshit like this?” He stalked me and pinned me between his body and the wall.

“Me? I haven’t heard from you since you left Miami, Dane. Not to mention you were on your fuckin’ plane with Kady. Don’t’ come in my house thinking you can talk to me crazy.”

“What?” he barked. “I’ve been blowin’ up yo’ shit! And you said this wasn’t about Kady. A bitch I didn’t look at, touch, fuck, or none of that shit!”

“Oh, really?” I chuckled and shook my head. “Do you think I’m stupid, Dane? No man can be in closed quarters with her and walk out saying some shit like that. Especially a nigga who already fucked her.”

“What?” he blasted. "I just told you I never fucked that bitch! And now I’m every nigga?” He actually sounded hurt. “You ‘bout to make me feel some shit I don’t wanna feel about you, Justina.”

“Yeah? What’s that, since you claimed to love me?”

“I do love yo’ ass!” he growled. “And if you stand here and throw that shit in my face, I’ma spazz the fuck out!”

“Spazz out then, Dane,” I pressured him. “’Cause I’m telling you right now, that a man who loves me would never be caught on his fuckin’ plane with another bitch! That bitch!”

“Justina! I swear to you on everything I love, nothin’ happened! Her management called at the last minute and asked me if I could give her a ride to London, aight. That’s it! I’ve been callin’ you since I got off the phone with her team.”

I stormed off through the house with Dane on my heels. When I made it to my room, I snatched my phone off the nightstand, opened the screen, and scrolled through my calls. As I swiped through them, I showed Dane my screen.

“Where are your calls, Dane? Huh? I don’t see a single damn one. And not a single fuckin’ message either.”

His eyebrows crashed together, then he brought out his own phone. He went to his call log and swept through. Just Me & U showed up too many times to count. Sometimes less than one minute after the last call. Confused at what I was looking at, I snatched his phone from his hand. He stood there and let me scroll through his phone as if he wasn’t afraid that I’d stumble upon something nefarious. Every call was to me, Hannah, or Angelo. There were other calls to other business associates. Most, I knew.

I clicked off his call log and scrolled through his messages, expecting him to demand his phone back at any minute. The longer I scrolled, the more I realized something wasn’t right. He’d been texting me since I arrived home the other night. Dane’s frustration escalated with each message. His messages went from answer the phone, baby to I’ma fuck you up when I see you. In the midst of all his craziness, I didn’t miss the ones that said I love you.

“I don’t understand,” I mumbled. “I didn’t receive any of these messages.”

“Call ya’self,” he requested, “And see what happens.”

Doing as he said, I pressed call. My phone didn’t ring and went straight to voicemail. My phone didn’t even alert me that I had missed a call or voicemail.

“What the hell?” I muttered.

“See,” he blasted. “You owe me an apology.”

I smacked my teeth and slammed his phone against his chest. “There has to be an explanation.”

“Uh… Maybe I can help with that.”

Turning towards the door, I found my mama standing there, wearing a sorrowful expression.

“Mama… What did you do?” I whispered.

Mama’s eyes watered, and she fidgeted with her fingers. I’d never seen her cage rattled like this before.

“I uh… You have to understand, Justina. I did it for you,” she said.

Apprehensively, I asked, “You did what?”

She sighed solemnly and replied, “I forwarded all your calls and messages from Dane to my phone. I’ve been getting his messages since you left the club the other evening.”

“What?” Dane and I shouted.

“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” she apologized tearfully. “Justina, I got word that you were seeing Dane while you were at his resort. I thought it was just a little fling. Then I found out the two of you are supposedly married. When you snuck off to meet him at the club, I was enraged. I had to do something. Then I caught you in here crying, and I knew I’d made the right decision. You weren’t going to cut things off with him, so I had to do it for you.”

“How could you? What the hell were you thinking?” I shouted.
