“Never mind,” I said, stepping toward the door.

“Where are you going?” he asked sharply.

“There are dozens of people downstairs. I’m supposed to be a hostess, right?”

“My mother can handle that.” He dismissed the object outright. “I want you here with me.”

He did? Well, two could blame his game. “Then you should ask nicely.”

His head tilted, his green eyes studying me as a slow smile spread across his face punctuated by a laugh.

“What?” I demanded

“Kerrigan has claws,” he said, hooking his index finger into my suit jacket and drawing me closer. “I felt them the other night when I was fucking you, but now I see them.”

“I’m sorry did I miss a please in there?” I asked him.

“Okay, we’ll play your way. Can I please show you what I was fantasizing about? I think you’ll approve.” His hand slipped from my jacket and circled around my waist to fondle the zipper of my skirt. “What do you say?”

“Clothes stay on.” I issued the challenge as he began to tug the zipper down.

“I can work with that.” His face leaned toward mine, his breath hot on my face, and my eyes closed to welcome his kiss. He seized his chance and spun me around. He slammed me into the wall. His fingers circled my wrists and drew my arms over my head as his knee coaxed my legs apart. The tailored fit of my skirt barely gave him room to work with. “Clothes on, huh?”

“Not up to the challenge?” I asked.

He answered by shoving my skirt up to my hips, exposing the lace garter belt and stockings I wore beneath it. Only a skimpy strip of fabric covered my sex and he pushed it to the side as his fingers worked inside my slick heat.

“You’re so fucking wet. Were you thinking about me, too?”

I moaned to avoid the question. All the pent-up frustration Holden left me with spilled over. Spencer accepted it greedily. His fingers slid out of me, leaving an ache behind. I cried out in frustration, pressing my cheek to the cool wall, in an attempt to soothe the ragged heat coursing through my body. The metal clink of a belt buckle sent my fraying nerves into overdrive.

“This is what I wanted,” he whispered. “I wanted your pussy bare and dripping for me. I wanted to hear your body smacking against the wall as I fucked you so hard you forgot to breathe. I wanted to hear that little sigh of desperation you make when you want my cock inside you. And I wanted to do this.”

His arm slid around me lifting me to the perfect angle. I bit my lip, waiting to feel his hard crown work inside me. But Spencer wasn’t interested in taking his time. He drove inside me with one strong thrust. I yelped at the sudden intrusion, but he didn’t pause to check on me. His palm pressed against my stomach, bracing me in place as he claimed me.

Each thrust drove away the real world. I forgot about Caroline and her plans. I forgot about Holden’s denial. I became nothing but his fantasy, and he carried me off with him.

“That’s right,” he coaxed, his hand sliding down until his fingers found my clit. “Come on my cock.”

I did as he told me, splintering apart, as he filled me. He lowered me onto shaky legs and slid his palms down my hips. But he didn’t push my skirt back into place or fix my knickers. Instead, he spread me open, making me tremble harder, and stood examining me. After a minute, he adjusted my knickers and smoothed my skirt down. I shifted to sag against the wall. I could feel his release seeping onto my thighs.

“I should clean up…” I said absently.

“No.” He grabbed my chin and forced me to look into his eyes. “Leave it. I want you to remember who you belong to.”

He had marked his territory. I barely heard him when he excused himself to return to his guests. Instead, I stayed slumped against the wall as I realized I could never free myself from him.

I didn’t have the strength.

Chapter Fifteen

“My name is Kerrigan Belmond.”

The doctor shifted in his seat and wrote something on his pad. Then, he turned his piercing gaze on me. “How does it feel to say it?”

Like a lie, I thought. “Good. Normal.”

I’d agreed to meet with Dr. Simmons, Kerrigan’s therapist, on the condition that he sign an affidavit that he wouldn’t speak about our sessions with Tod. Everyone seemed to think it was a pointless request. Tod argued that I was already assured confidentiality. But I didn’t care. I wanted it in writing. If the doctor tried to turn against me, I’d ruin him. It was as simple as that.
