"Let me think, woman," he grumbled.
"Can't you think and talk at the same time?"
"Maybe if I hadn't been starving for the last twelve years."
Ah.
Right.
"You could just bite me again," I offered. "We'll be better off if you're at full strength, anyway. I was useless in a fight even when my magic was strong."
"Don't make offers like that."
I shrugged. "Okay. Your loss."
He went quiet again.
I waited.
Tapped my foot.
Wiggled a little.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked.
"I get antsy. Don't like to sit still. Never have. It's probably a condition of some kind, but I'm not interested in being diagnosed. Personal preference."
He grunted, and went back to thinking.
I tapped my fingers on my arm.
Waiting wasn't my strong suit.

OPHELIA
Eventually, Dante stopped thinking and started talking.
"Because you're pretending to be a pixie, you need protection. The best way to get that is to find a fuck buddy. Men in the prison will kill to protect the woman they're with, consequences be damned. If you're not comfortable having sex down here, we can come up with something else."
"I have no problem with casual sex, as long as the person I'm casually fucking is attracted to me and all my darkness." I gestured to myself.
Dante lifted an eyebrow. "Darkness? You walked into the penitentiary in jean overalls and a bright orange bra. I didn't even know they made overalls that cut off like shorts."
I gestured toward his face. "The disdain coming from this region at the moment is a little much, considering I'm here to save you."
"You're here to save me from your prison. Which I was locked up in without breaking any laws."
"I came down here to fix that as soon as I found out and gathered enough magic. Is anyone else in here who shouldn't be?"
"Of course they are. Most of the fuckers in Shiv's gang don't deserve to be here."
Well, that wasn't good.
Maybe I'd need to come back for a few more immortals after I got Dante and Jazz out.
That was a problem for later.
