Pushing to my feet, I gesture toward the bedroom. “I’m just gonna—”
Josh stands too. “Do you want some help?”
“I think I can get it. Thanks, though.”
Sitting back down, he pats his thighs. “Okay.” I make it almost to the hallway when his voice stops me. “Thank you, Harlow.”
How fucked up is it that I feel like I should be thanking him? He did something I would have never had the courage to do. And it saved us both.
Chapter 19
Grayson
“Yeah, I know, Mom. We’ve gotta get settled in and get back to work and stuff, but we’ll plan a visit soon.”
She scoffs. “Plan a visit soon. You all didn’t even let us see you get married, and now you’re not even coming to visit until who knows when.”
I roll my eyes. “Mom. We just got back from our honeymoon. Give us a bit, okay?”
“Just got back from your wedding too,” she grumbles. “Annette and I were thinking about doing a reception for you guys. Do you think that would be okay?”
My heart stutters. “Let me talk to Harlow about it first.”
I can practically hear her eye roll. “Alright, fine.”
“I love you, Mom.” Tires crunch on the gravel, catching my attention. “Hey, Harlow just got home. I’ve gotta go.”
Mom sighs. “I love you too. Tell Harlow I love him as well.”
“Will do. Bye, Mom.”
Hanging up the phone, I jump to my feet.
The thing is, I’ve been an anxious wreck since Harlow left. I know it’s stupid, but I started thinking about the possibility that Josh might be trying to win Harlow back.
I don’t think Harlow would take him back, but what the fuck do I even know? And then I got a little relief in knowing that in order to do that, Harlow would have to divorce me, and then I felt like shit about it.
It’s a real fun time in my brain right now.
When he climbs out of his car, I get my ass in gear and walk outside. “Hey!” I call out. “Everything go okay?”
He flashes me a blinding smile. “Great.”
Without another word, he opens the back door and starts pulling bags out.
What does that mean? What does great mean? Does it mean they reconciled? Doubtful. Harlow wouldn’t be unloading things from his car if they did. At least, I don’t think he would be.
It seems like that would be counterproductive.
Stepping off the porch, I rush to the car. “Let me help.”
Harlow shifts, handing me the bag he just pulled out. “Thanks. Josh said we could come back whenever and get the rest. He said I could take anything I wanted. Furniture and stuff, and he’d replace anything I took.”
Well, that’s nice of him. I don’t trust it.
When my arms are loaded down, Harlow walks around to the back of the car and starts pulling stuff from the trunk. Fuck, I hate this. I hate not knowing how it went. I’m aware that makes me sound like a possessive asshole. Did they argue? Was he nice? Was he too nice? Does Harlow regret taking me on his honeymoon?
“…nice talk, actually. It was a little weird, but still nice. I think it’s all gonna work out, actually. Hell, even I’m surprised that he asked—”
