This is the moment where I should probably turn and walk straight back to bed. But I don’t. I open my mouth, and I say something that I probably shouldn’t. Inhaling a deep breath, I let it out slowly before I speak.
“Come to bed, Dare. There’s no reason for you to sleep on this sofa when there’s a perfectly good bed and I’m only using half.”
He lifts his gaze to meet mine, his eyes widening. “Sweetheart, I don’t think I should be there beside you.”
Taking a step toward him, I reach out my hand, palm up, my gaze never leaving his. “Come on. We’re married. We can sleep in the same bed.”
He shakes his head once, then stands. He doesn’t take my hand, but he does close the distance between us with three short strides. He’s so close to me I can practically taste him.
“I should stay right here on this couch,” he murmurs. “But my back is fuckin’ killing me.”
My lips twitch into a smirk. “Come on, Dare.” I turn away from him and start to head to the bedroom when I feel his fingers curl around my bicep. He squeezes me gently, stopping me from walking away.
Turning my head, I look over my shoulder at him. “We’re married,” he states. I open my mouth to agree, but then he continues, so I snap my lips closed and continue to watch him, waiting for him to continue.
“My name’s Amos.”
I know his name is Amos. I signed the wedding papers and saw the certificate and everything after the wedding, but I’ve never used the name or even thought about it. I know their road names are what they prefer.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard another person call even my own dad by his first name, ever. I don’t say any of that, though. Instead, my lips curve up into a small smile. “Come to bed, Amos.”
And he does.
CHAPTER
NINE
DARE
This is a huge fucking mistake. Lying flat on my back, I stare up at the ceiling as she curls up to lie on her side, her back to me. I want to roll over, press against her, and wrap my arm around her. Spoon. I snort to myself. I don’t think I even remember the last time I spooned anyone.
But I want to spoon her.
I don’t do it, though. My control is hanging on by a thread just being this near her, let alone actually touching her… with her ass against my cock. Nope. Can’t do it.
So, I continue to stare at the ceiling and wonder why I didn’t just stay on the sofa. I should have. I should have stayed far fucking away from this soft bed, lying next to her even softer body.
I hear her let out a heavy sigh, and then she moans softly and rolls over to face me, her arm slipping around my waist.
My heart slams against my chest.
I’m over fifty fucking years old, and here I am, getting twitterpated by this woman sliding her arm around my waist. I don’t think I was even this excitable when I was an actual virgin. What the actual fuck is wrong with me, and where the shit are my balls?
Those are the last thoughts I have before my eyes slide closed and I fall asleep. I can’t remember the last time I felt at peace, but the moment she touches me, peace consumes me.
I’m not sure how long I sleep. The only reason my eyes open is because an alarm sounds somewhere in the room. I blink a couple of times, feeling something heavy against my chest.
Shifting my gaze down, I see all of Chassis’s hair sprawled out over my whole chest and torso.
It covers every square inch of my skin.
Fucking heaven.
I should not be thinking this way, but I can’t help it. This woman is fucking heaven. Her hair, her scent, and her soft touch are goddamn bliss.
I don’t know if I should touch her or not, but since she’s lying against my side and her hair covers my chest, I decide she touched me first, so I go against everything I should probably be doing and glide my fingers up her back, curling them around the back of her neck.
Her breathing changes almost instantly at my touch. She tips her head back, her eyelids flutter open, and then those pretty blue eyes meet mine, and I swear to fuck my entire body changes in an instant.
