I made a stupid fucking promise is what I did. I wish I could take it back, because while I won’t ever force myself on Chassis, I can’t pretend I’m not attracted to her. Clearing my throat, I run my fingers through my short hair before I take a step backward.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I’m not picky, but you really don’t have to. I can just make something.”
Shaking my head a couple of times, I rock back on my heels, trying to do anything but reach out and wrap my arms around her before I haul her against me and touch my mouth to hers. My body is screaming at me to take her, and my mind is using every single ounce of self-control I can muster… though it’s slipping.
“I’ll go to The Dillinger. Anything you don’t eat on your burger?”
She blinks, then shakes her head. “No onions, but yeah, that sounds good.”
“You been there before?” I ask.
Chassis shakes her head. “I haven’t really been anywhere here other than a few stores trying to find baby stuff.”
I’m an ass. Here she is, married to a stranger, in a town she’s never lived in before, and I’ve been keeping my distance from her because I don’t feel like I can control my dick around her.
Holy fucking shit, I’m an asshole.
But I’m not enough of an asshole not to handle some business. Once Chassis is in her car and heading home, I march right back into the clubhouse. Rocky is standing there with a smirk still playing on her lips.
“Pack your fucking shit and get the fuck out of my clubhouse,” I grind out.
Her eyes widen, her lips part, and she watches me for a moment.
“I’m not discussing a goddamn thing about it. You talked to my wife, my old lady, naked, and no doubt said some shit you should not have. You know the rules, and you’ve been warned already. I’m done. I won’t have whores making old ladies feel uncomfortable, not in my club. You’re gone by morning, or you won’t like the consequences.”
Without another word, I walk out of the club and head straight for my bike, climb on, start the engine, and roar away. I’ve got a pregnant woman to feed burgers to.
CHAPTER
FIVE
CHASSIS
Why am I nervous?
Dare walked me to my car, closed the door, and told me he’d meet me at home. It’s his home, too, but there’s something intimate about him calling it home. Like it’s ours that we share together. I know it’s not. At least not like that, but still…
I’m not sure what to do right now, and I’m not quite sure what I’m doing. Maybe I’m just lonely. Dare doesn’t want me. I’m this burden he’s saddled with because he respects my father. I need to remember that. Just because he’s being so nice to me doesn’t mean he’s into me.
And why would he be?
I’m pregnant with someone else’s baby.
I’m stupid. I’ve been stupid, and clearly, I’m not done being stupid. Because I want him to want me. And that’s ridiculous. I need to get out of this house, meet someone, a friend or something. I need to socialize because I think I’m starting to go a little cuckoo. Dare doesn’t know me. There’s no way in hell he wants me. He’s living the life he wants. He probably never even wanted to be married—ever. And here he is, married to me, and now I’m looking at him with starry eyes because I’m bored.
My thoughts seem perfectly rational to myself. But then my heart skips a beat when I hear his bike pulling into the driveway. I should not be excited for him to be here, to open that door and walk through in his thick boots. I shouldn’t even care.
But I do.
I watch as the door swings open, and there, walking through the door, is this man I’ve been stressing about. He moves through to the entryway, kicking the door shut behind him, then I watch as he stops, his eyes finding mine.
“Why are you standing in the middle of the room?” he asks.
I blink, unsure of how to respond to that. “Waiting for you?” I say, my words coming out more like a question than a statement.
“That doesn’t change my question. You’re on your fuckin’ feet in the middle of the living room and pregnant.”
My lips twitch into a smirk as I take a step backward. “Well, let’s eat then.”
