Lifting my hands between us, I wonder if I could even go for another round, but then I realize that when it comes to her, I definitely could try.
“Do you love me, Amos?” she asks softly.
I could tell her it’s not her business, but that would be a full fucking lie, because it’s all her business. Every fucking word. Gathering her hair in my hand, I hold it like a low ponytail against the base of her neck.
“With every fucking fiber of my being, sweetheart.”
She smiles softly, her teeth biting her bottom lip as she searches my gaze with hers. “I’m glad, considering we’re married,” she whispers.
“And having a baby.”
My words cause sadness to flash through her eyes. I hate it, and I wish I could take it away from her. I can’t, though. This baby is ours, even if it’s not mine by blood. It’s still mine, just like she is—mine.
“And having a baby,” she murmurs. “What happens when we get home?”
I’m not sure I understand her question, but I wait for her to continue. There’s clearly more to it, and I want to make sure she gets it all out so I can give her a thorough answer. When she remains silent, I arch a brow, tugging her makeshift ponytail back slightly, causing her neck to arch.
Fucking gorgeous.
“When we get home, we set up the baby’s room. We get everything handled, and then you have this little boy.”
She slides her fingernails through the hair at my jaw. Her eyes search mine the entire time, her lips slowly curving into a soft smile. She scratches my skin, and I swear to fuck it’s almost as good as sex.
“And that’s that?” she asks. “There’re no repercussions for me?”
I laugh softly, but I don’t release her, or my grasp on her. I want her right here. I don’t want her anywhere else but with me. Sliding one of my hands from her hip, I place my palm against her belly.
The baby moves, the sensation taking me off guard. It feels like it’s fluttering inside her. Shifting my focus from her gaze to her belly, I stare as if something else is going to happen. Maybe it will. I have no goddamn clue. I’ve never experienced anything like this before.
“Is it moving?” I demand softly.
“He is,” Chassis whispers. “He’s been moving a lot the last couple of days.”
“Fucking amazing,” I grunt. “Absolutely awe-inspiring.”
I don’t move my hand. I don’t want to miss a minute of this baby moving. My baby. It doesn’t matter that he isn’t my blood, that I didn’t plant him inside her body. He’s still mine, and I dare anyone to say otherwise.
“No repercussions, sweetheart. You’re my woman, my old lady.”
“But what about this deal? Isn’t everyone going to get upset that you’re getting in partnerships with the Russians?”
Releasing my grasp on her hair, I curl my fingers around her throat again. I can feel her heart thumping against my fingers. It’s fucking exhilarating that I can make her feel this way. I want to throw her on her back and fuck her until we’re both screaming.
I can’t do that, though, at least not for a few months.
“Nobody gives a shit, Chassis. Not unless I tell them to, at least about this.”
She shakes her head a couple of times, her hair flying around her shoulders. “You’re full of shit, Amos. I’ve heard the way the guys get. They care if something changes, and they’re going to care that this is the change. That I’m the reason for a change.”
“Chassis,” I state. “Look at me.”
She dips her chin slightly, her eyes still focused on mine, but she doesn’t say anything. Instead, she presses her lips together as she waits for me to continue. She wants my reassurances, but I don’t know what I have to give her.
“Don’t worry about the club. Trust me that I got this. I got you, I got this baby… I got us.”
Releasing my grasp on her belly, I slide my hand up her chest, curling my fingers around the back of her neck and gently tugging her down as I lift up so that my lips meet hers.
“I love you, sweetheart. We got this.”
