“What?” she asks.
“Nothing.”
Except it isn't nothing.
I've watched Presley through windows. I've followed her through the woods. I've memorized her routines, learned the sound of her laugh, and spent more nights than I should admit wondering what it would feel like to have her.
But none of that feels like this.
She's standing in front of me wearing my sweatshirt, looking at me like I'm someone she trusts. Someone she chose.
And suddenly, having her isn't enough.
I want it all.
I want mornings on her couch. Her ridiculous amount of coffee. Penny stealing my spot beside her.
I want to hear her talk about her grandmother and watch her become Professor Bailey.
I want every fucking version of her she'll give me.
And I want her to know every version of me.
The thought lands hard enough to wipe the smile from my face.
Because she doesn't. Not yet.
Presley reaches for my hand. “Come on. I'm cold.”
Her fingers thread through mine like they belong there.
I stare down at our joined hands.
Fuck. I'm absolutely gone for this woman.
For the first time in my life, I'm in love.
CHAPTER 33
Presley
By the time we make it back to the house, my hair is a disaster, my legs feel like jelly, and I’m fairly certain there are scratches from the tree bark all over my back.
Penny is looking out the patio door, waiting. Judging.
I stop in front of it. “Oh, don't look at me like that.”
Her ears lift.
Hades steps beside me.
“She knows.”
“She does not.”
“She absolutely knows.”
“She's a dog.”
