Following behind her, I watched her explore the cabin before finding the perfect couch to lounge on. The rest of us took our seats and buckled in for takeoff.

The silence between us built as the plane doors were sealed and the jet taxied to the runway. I gripped the arm of my plush, leather seat, feeling the engine roar as the plane’s wheels lifted off the concrete.

The plane rattled a little as we ascended, all of us holding our breaths.

I had no idea what would happen when we landed — didn’t even know where I’d be sleeping that night — let alone if this shot in the dark would work.

All I could do was look out the window at Baring Mountain and hope that we would find Vivienne again.

Even as we leveled out in the air, 30,000 feet up, none of us could break the silence.

Saying goodbye to Vivienne was hard enough. But parting without knowing for sure that we’d ever see her again… that was a level none of us were ready to confront.

Dom stared out the window, lost in thought. I was certain that she would be plotting her revenge. She had plenty of reasons to want to take her father down. Finding out that he had faked Viv’s death, lied to Dom for over a decade, and let her be corrupted by Isaac’s power would spur a new level of hatred.

I bit my lip, watching Lady’s breathing as she fell asleep on one of the white leather sofas.

Across from me, Spencer’s leg tapped as she looked around the cabin. The boredom was taking hold. More than that, Spence couldn’t handle the tension. Her mind was already so crowded with anxiety, any more and she might explode.

“Okay, enough. This is so sad.” Spencer shook her head and stood up as soon as the seat belt light flicked off.

Leo’s eyes went wide, shocked to be pulled from her own spiral. “What?”

Slamming her palm on the table in front of Dom, Spencer clicked her tongue. “We have a six hour flight and we’re not spending it all fucking morose.”

“Morose? Big word.” Dom’s jaw tensed, plenty happy to stay in the dark corners of her mind.

“We gotta fix the vibe.”

“Fix the vibe?” Leo laughed.

Rubbing her forehead, Dom growled. “That’s so fucking stupid, Spence.”

Spencer nodded as she waved Dom’s cynicism off. “Yep. Let’s play a game.”

“No.” Quick to shut this shit down, Dom went back to looking out the window.

Her negative attitude was pissing me off… again. “We don’t need grumpy-pants to play a game.”

Snapping her fingers Spencer bounded over to my seat and kissed my cheek. “Exactly, Bunny. You get the idea. Two truths and a lie.”

“I like the sound of that.” Leo smirked, trusting her military training to know when one of us was lying.

“Dom?” Spencer gestured to her cranky comrade whose lack of response was her answer. “Fine. I’ll start.”

Moving over to the plush leather couch, Spencer looked up at the ceiling of the private jet. “Okay. I’ve never left the country. I love unicorns. And I really, really love when Dom is a piss baby.”

From her seat, Dom whipped her head around. “That’s two lies and a truth, idiot.”

“Ha. Got you. Now you have to play.”

“No.” Dom crossed her arms.

Leo took her turn, a sexy smile teasing her lips. Her head rolled back as she thought, the hilt of her sword tattoo stretching over her flesh. “I failed my first boot camp physical. I eat whip cream out of the can at night. I hate motorcycles.”
