Chapter Thirty-Four
The weekend went by and we're now halfway through the week. The last two days of school, I haven't seen Joel. I don't know where he is but the werewolf gossip at school is Jenna found her mate. He's a couple years older and not in school, but he's in the pack. Rumours are starting up about Joel; that he's so depressed Jenna left him that he dropped out of school. That's one of the normal rumours. They only get darker. As much as I hate to admit it, I want to know he's safe. The thought of my mate dying does affect me.
The day goes by in a blur; the only thing coming out of today is rumours. At the end of the day, the monstrosities call me as I'm walking to my car. They say my name instead of crossbred. I turn to them, seeing them leaning on one of their cars, several cars down. They walk over to me.
“I can't tell if I should be impressed you turned Joel down or think you're even more stupid for turning down the only male wolf who ever made a move.” Ember grins.
“I'm curious. Why would someone as low as you turn down a popular guy like him?” Mitchell questions.
“Is it because you're a little virgin?” Hannah smirks.
“No, it's because he's a loser, like the three of you,” I exclaim, watching the smirks fall from their faces.
“Who do you think you're talking to?” Mitchell seethes while Ember and Hannah step closer in a threatening way.
“You may want to step back. You don't know what you're doing anymore,” I warn, expecting to be hit but knowing this will be the last time.
“Someone's getting too big for their britches. Looks like someone has to knock you back into place,” Kieryn’s voice travels as he walks up behind me. “Seriously, why the fuck are you still at school? I figured once my mum kicked you out, you'd be in the gutter.”
“Why don't you tell your mother to go fuck herself?” I give him a sinful smirk then get in my car while they're too shocked to react. I pull out of the parking lot but I hear them shout “This isn't over yet,” and “You're going to regret this.”
They think another beating is coming my way. But I'm talking to Axe about this once and for all. Telling him everything. I owe him that. He's starting to open up about his mate so I should open up about my abuse. I don't want him to go on a rampage and kill them but I know he can put a stop to it. Now that he's mated me, I've noticed a possessiveness in him the last few days. When he first took me in, his protection was evident, but now he's touched me, he's becoming more comfortable showing that I'm his.
When I get home, he's in his office. I sit down in the chair in front of him. He must see the serious look on my face because he stands and comes around to sit in the chair beside me, turning it to me.
“Who do I have to kill?” His first question is so on point.
“The abuse won't stop until someone puts a stop to it. You've told me you're doing more alpha work and getting back into being the leader so I know you can stop this for me.”
“Did someone hurt you?” The rage is starting to form in his eyes. I grab his hands in mine to soothe him.
“No one hurt me, but I know they're planning on it. Once school ends, everything will be fine but...”
“I'll take care of it,” he cuts me off.
“Axe, I don't want to see you kill someone. You're an alpha and I understand that but I don't want to see you be violent,” I admit nervously. He's been so good to me. But I know his violence is still there, just lingering under the surface.
“Death is too kind for them.”
The next few hours I tell him everything but I can see his anger rising so I keep the details brief. He already knows some from what he overheard when I spoke to Carson. By the end of it, I can't tell if Axe is angry or crushed.
“I will have a talk with Dash in the early morning but this will be taken care of tomorrow. You are not going to school. A pack meeting will be held.”
“Okay,” I say shakily.
“Don't be nervous. The impact this meeting will have on this pack will be colossal. They follow my laws, everything will run smoothly. If there are repercussions, what happens next they have brought on themselves. Now enough alpha talk. I don't need you to worry about anything except yourself.”
Axe pulls me onto his lap in an instant and smashes his lips against mine. His fingers tighten around my hips and he pulls me as close to him as he can. Axe slides his thumbs into the waistband of my pants.
“Axe,” I breathe out, pulling away.
“I don't want to talk anymore. I need you.” He tries to kiss me again but I stop him.
“I'm on my period,” I tell him shyly.
“Oh, that's bad timing. Since I can't touch you, would it be selfish of me to ask for you to do something for me?” Axe's eyes are lustful but considerate.
“I want to.” I nod.
