“Your mate works here,” I state.

“Yeah, I want to see her.”

We walk in and take a seat at one of the cushioned booths. Dash smiles as a waitress walks over to us.

“Hi Ryleigh,” Dash greets her. To her, his eyes might appear flirtatious, but I see the adoration in them.

“Hi Dash. Can I get you some drinks to start off?” she asks politely.

“Yes, but first we need to plan our date. When should I call you?” He smiles charmingly. Ryleigh looks at me then turns back to him in annoyance.

“You asked for my number yesterday then you come in here with a date and are talking about taking me on a date,” she says bitterly.

“No.” Dash chuckles. “This is my best friend's girl, Elora.”

“Ohh hi,” she murmurs to me.

“Nice to meet you.” I smile to ease her embarrassment.

“So a date?” Dash asks hopefully.

“You can call me tonight. I should take your order now. The breakfast rush will get busy,” she says.

We order our food and have a small, light conversation. Dash's eyes keep following wherever Ryleigh is.

“I like her. She wasn't afraid to call you out,” I say.

“Great spirit for a wolf's girlfriend, wouldn't you say?” Dash smirks.

“I have an awkward question. Since she's human, your wolf can't mate her. How does that work?” I ask.

“Since we're werewolves, we reproduce in our human form so that's not a problem. My wolf won't be able to have her since she doesn't have a wolf but it's not about sex. My wolf will be satisfied with her companionship.”

“But wolves mate for life,” I push.

“Yeah but that doesn't necessarily mean mates fuck each other all the time. A wolf stays with their mate for life. Whether they're having sex or not doesn't really matter.”

“I really should be educated on werewolves,” I joke even though it's not funny. I didn't even know the history before Axe explained it to me.

Dash drops me off at home and I walk inside. I sniff Axe out and find him asleep in his bed. While he sleeps, given he'd be tired after yesterday's fight and all, I call Carson and tell her everything that happened.

“Oh my fucking shit,” Carson screeches after I've said everything. “That sounds like a once in a lifetime event. I can't believe I missed it.”

“I would have told you about it but you only just left a few days ago so I didn't want to make it inconvenient for you,” I tell her.

“You're so thoughtful. So how are things now?”

“Well, Axe is sleeping. I might shower and then hopefully Axe and I can be happy once and for all since everything's taken care of. I'm worried about Manson but I shouldn't be...”

“Don't worry about my father. Hardheaded men need a wake-up call anyway. He'll get over it, trust me. When I was leaving the pack to be with my mate, he didn't talk to me for six months because he had some stupid thought that I was quitting the pack. But now we talk again.”

“Shit, that's kinda immature,” I think out loud.

“Yeah, he was even more pissed when I left Axe after the accident happened and again stopped talking to me.”

“Do you think he'll give Axe the silent treatment?” I wonder.
