Prisoners are locked up. How are they causing problems? They are literally in cells.
“They are giving the guards a hard time during shower and yard time. I'm the warden of the prison but Axe still has the final say. I want to be able to teach them a lesson so they quit acting out.”
“Oh, just do what you want. You're the warden,” I say.
“I still need Axe's approval.”
“Axe has a lot on his plate right now,” I tell him.
“Like what?” Jayceon looks at me.
“Well... keep this to yourself because we haven't told a lot of people, but I'm pregnant.”
“Really?” Jayceon asks.
“Yeah.”
“I just got an idea. Want to do me a favour?” Jayceon has a troubling glint in his eyes.
“Umm.” I'm not sure I want to know what his idea is.
“Look, Joel is causing a problem with the guards. I want you to tell him you're pregnant. That should drop him down a notch. The depressed prisoners are the easiest to deal with.”
“Why would Joel care that I'm pregnant?”
“He was still your mate. Your effect on him will tear him down if you use it right.” Jayceon stares intently at me.
I sigh. “Jayceon, I'm not hurting someone.”
“Even after he rejected you?” Jayceon says arrogantly.
Is he serious? How can he throw that in my face?
“You're full of shit. You were the one who told me I have to be the bigger person as the luna when I got in a fight with Jenna and now you're telling me to bring down Joel.” I frown at him.
“There's a difference between a pack member and a prisoner.”
“If you're so good at your job like you said you were, figure it out.” I stand up and walk to the kitchen.
Jayceon doesn't bother saying anything. He leaves.
Chapter Sixty-Two
I've decided to go for a walk today. I've been thinking about work at the clothes store. I still only do weekend shifts and Axe wants me to quit. He doesn't want me to overwork myself. But then staying home can get boring especially when Axe is in the gym or office. I'm debating whether working is worth it. It's not about the money anymore since Axe looks after me. But it's more just socialising with humans. It's strangely satisfying watching humans go about their days, clueless to the fact werewolves walk among them. I can't imagine how simple their lives are, not having to live their life according to a mate and not having to shift into a savage creature often.
In the distance is a park where a few kids are playing, so I go over and sit on the bench. The only bench that has an available space is next to a woman I haven't seen before. She is staring off at the kids playing in the park. I pull out my phone and just enjoy the breeze and the innocence of children laughing.
“Which one's yours?” I ask the woman.
“None of them,” she says.
I frown. I want to ask her why she's at a park staring at children when none of them are hers but I don't want to snoop.
“I'm not a creep if that's what you're thinking. I want to have kids and my asshole mate keeps telling me not yet.” She rolls her eyes.
“Oh, maybe he's not ready,” I suggest.
“No, he keeps saying he's busy with work and it's pissing me off.”
