She snorts a laugh. “As if. I’m awful, and you are so full of shit. Which is totally fine. I don’t need anyone else.”

Lee leans a few inches closer, and I can’t help but wrap an arm around her.

With a sigh, she lays her head against my chest. I rest my chin on her head.

She exhales and mumbles something. I think it was something about my pecs. I’m not going to be able to hold her like this for long before she hears my heart beat out of my chest.

“Agent Leighlan, are you drunk?”

Shifting back, I peer down at her.

She smacks my chest, and I pretend like it didn’t sting.

“Not as drunk as I’m gonna be.”

Her hand shoots up like she’s trying to answer a question in a school classroom. Swinging her arm back and forth, she tries to get the bartender's attention.

“Hey, let's get you home.”

I start to stand, but she catches my sleeve and tugs me back down.

“No. Boo. Home is sad.” She turns toward the bartender. “Hey, best bar friend, when you get a chance, can I get some more tequila?”

She flashes the guy a smile, and he blushes. There are too many men in this bar looking at her, and it’s pissing me off. I’m aware that is crazy, and I have no right to feel that way.

“Come on, pretty boy. Drink with me. Bet you can’t catch up.”

That’s all it takes. One little smirk from her pink lips, and I forget why I’m here.

Then I’m ordering us another round, and Lee is laughing at something I said. I tell her about the first time I learned not to wake a sleeping man on the street. I deserved the bottle that was thrown at me. And to his credit, it was way too late to be talking to him.

Somewhere between her first real laugh and the shots, the bar noise fades to white static. Her knee bumps mine under the bar again. This time, I can’t help but look at her leg next to mine.

Lee laughs at something stupid I said about Fuller’s comb-over. When she really laughs, she snorts. It’s adorable. Her hand lands on my thigh for balance, fingers curling into the fabric.

She moves to yank her hand back. Before she gets a chance, I cover her hand with mine.

Her eyes snap up. Clearer than they should be after that many shots.

I don’t give her a chance to make an excuse or tell me how bad an idea it is.

My mouth crushes hers. She parts her lips just enough for me to slide my tongue inside. Fuck, she’s hot, and tastes like lime. I steal her breath and shove my hand in her hair to hold her against me.

Lee’s hand slides higher along my thigh, and she brushes it against my erection. She breaks the kiss with a soft gasp and stares at me, wide-eyed.

She’s going to try and say it didn’t mean anything, and that is going to piss me off.

“I’m going to the bathroom,” she says, sliding off the stool.

Standing, I yank my wallet out of my back pocket, throw cash on the bar, and follow her down the hall.

I push open the women’s restroom door. She looks up from the sink and meets my eyes in the mirror. I stalk toward her.

“What are you doing in here?” she asks, spinning around to face me.

“I told you. I want to be where you are.”

I crowd her until she’s pressed against the counter. Her fingers tangle into my hair, greedy.
