Evie kissed him back with a fervor he hadn’t expected. Maybe he should have, given their phone call last weekend and how much they had shared in the last couple of days, but based on how nervous she still seemed at times, he wasn’t sure. But now he knew that he had no reason to doubt. She wanted him just as much as he wanted her.

Pulling back from the kiss, he let an impish grin spread across his face. Evie bit her bottom lip, looking slightly embarrassed by her actions as she gazed up at him.

“What’s that look for, beautiful?” he asked, running a hand lazily up and down her spine.

“I just…want to make sure you liked that.”

Drake shifted underneath her, rolling his hips so his rock-hard cock rubbed against her center. “Feel that, baby? That is what you do to me, just by cuddling with me. Not the book, not some fictional character—you.”

Evie blushed as she listened to what he was telling her. He knew it was maybe a little over the top, but he wanted her to understand just how special she was.

“I’m not very good at this kind of stuff,” she admitted.

“Why don’t you let me be the judge of that? What do you want, Evie? Tell me what you want.”

“I…I want you to touch me.”

“How?”

“Like Pete touches Jess in the book.”

Without hesitation, Drake reached down, cupping her ass in his hand and giving her cheek a playful squeeze. With his free hand, he pulled her back in for another searing kiss, still taking his time. He wanted them both to savor this moment, not to rush through it just because they were both so horny they could burst. His hands found the hem of her shirt and slid underneath it, running them up her sides until he found her small, pert breasts, her nipples already standing at attention. He ran his fingers over them, and she ground her core into him, and he let out a groan from the delicious friction.

With another growl, he grabbed on to Evie and rolled them over on the couch, so they now lay side by side, facing each other. He kissed her once again, the arm from the side he was lying on holding her face. He was starting to think that kissing Evie was like a drug, and he just couldn’t get enough of her soft lips and her sweet taste. Without breaking their kiss, Drake slowly slid his hand down Evie’s lithe body and past the waistband of her yoga pants. When his fingers found her sex, he was startled to find that it was smooth, like she was freshly…

“Evie,” Drake said, a smile forming on his lips as he kissed her. “Did you…shave?”

Evie pulled back from their kiss, looking down and avoiding eye contact. Drake had figured out this was her go-to move when she was embarrassed, but he wasn’t going to let her be that way now.

“Look at me, Evie. Don’t get shy on me now. You can do that all you want out there, but not here. My Evie isn’t shy.”

Her eyes flew up to meet his at the words “my Evie.” They seemed to spark something in her, just as he had hoped they would.

“That’s why I went home. I…I thought you’d like it.”

“I like you, Evie. In whatever form you want to give me,” he said, kissing her softly. “That said, I fucking love it.”

She giggled lightly and then moved her hips to try and make contact with the hand that was still down her pants. Happy to oblige her, he quickly found her folds with his fingers, slowly caressing them. She was already wet, and he loved the feel of her desire on his hand. She was so incredibly responsive to his touch, and he adored every little whine and whimper she made as he played with her sex. He slowly inserted two fingers inside her, and she moaned loudly as she threw her head backward, exposing her neck. Taking the opportunity in front of him, Drake lavished kisses on her throat, working on finding all her sweet spots.

Ever so gently, he ran his thumb over her clit, barely making contact with it. She was so worked up that even this little bit of friction made her gasp, and Drake could feel her insides start to contract around his fingers. Returning his attention to that little bundle of nerves, he started to circle it, making sure to vary the amount of pressure he applied, until suddenly she bucked underneath him and let out a noise that was a cross between a whimper and a whine. Drake didn’t stop his attention until after he was sure she’d experienced every last aftershock from her climax.

After a long moment of Evie catching her breath, she finally opened her eyes, a new shimmer having replaced that timid look from earlier.

“Drake…” she whispered.

“Told you I was better than that Duke.”

Homecoming was a big deal at Kennedy High School. On top of the Friday night football game, many of the other team sports held a friendly game of students versus alumni during the day on Saturday, before the big dance that night. Evie had never made it to any of the homecoming games, wanting to keep at least a portion of her weekend to herself since she always had to chaperone the dance. However, this year Drake had told the rest of the athletic department that they would join them for the football game on Friday night, and Evie was surprised by how much fun they had. Although, everything she and Drake did together was fun.

It’d been six weeks since Drake had unexpectedly shown back up into her life, and Evie couldn’t remember a time when she had been happier. The time she spent with Drake was like a dream come true. She felt like she had come alive and had found a whole new side of herself. He was also quite possibly the most magical kisser on the planet.

They had settled into a rhythm pretty quickly of lunch together at school and phone calls at night, starting a new book each week. On Wednesdays he came to her place for dinner before tucking her into bed and reading to her, and on Fridays she went to his place. Some nights together they just read, others they fooled around. Evie had never felt more respected in a relationship than she did with Drake. He made it very clear that he wanted her, but also that she was in charge and they weren’t going to do anything that she wasn’t comfortable with. That respect from him was what had made it so easy for her to let go, and when they’d had sex for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Evie finally understood exactly what the heroines in her books were feeling.

Sitting on the bleachers waiting for the alumni/student baseball game to get started, Evie let her mind wander back to that night. Walking through the door of his apartment with her overnight bag slung over her shoulder and a pizza in hand, she was still debating if she had the nerve to tell him what she’d been thinking about all week. Her fears soon dissipated as he greeted her with a long, deep kiss as if he hadn’t seen her in months, rather than the ninety minutes it’d been since they’d left the school’s parking lot.

When they climbed into bed that night to read, Evie’s whole body thrummed with excitement. Bold was never a word she would have used to describe herself, yet somehow, that was exactly what she was feeling in the moment.
