“I didn’t steal anything. Last I checked my last name is still Sutherland, and we still own this company. You know as well as I do that the plan has been for me to take on the role since I was born,” Dalton stated, trying to remain calm and professional. “While I may have taken a sabbatical from the company, I’m back now.”
The elevator dinged as the doors opened, and Dalton stepped inside. With a little spring in his step, he twirled around and faced Jonah, pressing the button for the lobby.
“Besides,” he continued, as the door started to close. “You’re not the only one who has expressed interest.”
A couple of hours later, Dalton and Zara sat in the back of a town car heading toward the small airport that housed the Southland Holdings corporate jet. Dalton let out another sigh of relief that the meeting was finally over and they were now on their way to spend some time in the sun with his friends.
“We could have just flown commercial, you know,” Zara told him as the car pulled up next to the plane.
“Nope,” he said, hopping out of the car and running around to open her door. “Scheduling was a pain. Plus, this is easier to bring Cullen back so he can meet with Gunnar and Britt next week.”
“I’m so excited to see him in action! I bet he’s excited to work with his buddies again.”
“I’m not really sure what I got myself into agreeing to let the three of them run the training camp, but we’ll see,” Dalton laughed. “But right now, my only focus is on getting us back to the Indigo Royal so I can spend the next couple of days getting lost in you.”
Pulling her into him, he captured her lips in a deep, passionate kiss. He loved this woman more than he ever thought possible. There was no way he would have survived the last five months without her by his side. She amazed him every day, from her sweet supportive nature to her fierce lady-boss attitude that she channeled to take on her new TV project. There was nothing she couldn’t do, and he felt like the luckiest man alive to be the one she chose to do it all with.
They settled themselves into their seats on the plane, and Dalton switched on the TV. He already had the flight staff load up the hard drive connected to the TV with a bunch of movies he was sure Zara would want to watch. Flipping to the menu, he picked one at random as Zara snuggled into him. The feel of her warm body against his was the best feeling in the world, and he once again thanked the universe that she was his. In just a few hours they would finally be back in the place where it all finally came together, and he could not wait.
After all, there was a diamond ring burning a hole in his pocket…
