“Going somewhere?” he asked, his eyes smoldering.

“Getting away from you,” she quipped, right before ducking under his arm. Spinning on her heel, she marched toward the little hall that led to the bathrooms and Heather’s office, forgetting all about her drink. That wasn’t why she was really here, anyway. She’d come hoping to find solace with her people. Both of whom were too busy at the moment running this place and being the lady bosses they were.

Slamming the office door behind her, Felicity slumped down into the black leather chair that she and Heather had picked out just for this space. They both knew it was a bit over the top for an office Heather wouldn’t spend much time in, but it was plush and comfy, and Felicity had joked that it was the perfect chair for Heather to sit back and relax in when she finally broke down and let one of her hottie waitstaff “service” her. Thinking back on how hard they had laughed that day in the office supply store, Felicity couldn’t help but let a giggle escape her now.

Her delight didn’t last long, though, as just a few seconds later the office door crashed open, making a sound that could have awakened the dead. Felicity popped up from the chair, sending it spinning in place behind her. Gunnar stepped inside the office, slamming the door behind him.

“What the fuck?” Felicity exclaimed, looking at Gunnar as if he’d lost his mind. Hands clenched into fists by his side, the look on his face was primal, like he was some kind of hunter and she his prey. She had no idea how, but his eyes were even darker than a moment ago, although this time she knew exactly what that look was.

Desire.

Felicity’s pulse raced as she sucked in a breath, unable to take her eyes off of him. Every inch of him called to her, and fuck, if she wasn’t doing everything in her power to fight her body’s response. Her skin tingled at the thought of those strong hands on her, pulling her close.

Gunnar crossed the small room in two steps, and before she could even form the thought to ask him what he was doing, he had one arm wrapped around her waist, tugging her flush to him. Their bodies collided, almost knocking what little breath she had left from her body. His hard chest heaved against her, causing her aching breasts to rub against the lace of her bra. The sensation sent tingles throughout her body, turning her on even more.

Not wasting another second, he captured her lips in his. His lips were hot and hard, his movements demanding, giving Felicity no choice but to comply. Not that she was resisting. His kiss was exactly what she’d been craving, even if she hadn’t been willing to admit it. His hands seemed to be everywhere as their mouths continued to meld together—on her back, palming her ass, playing in her hair. Every new place they found reacted the same way, making her want more. When his tongue met hers, she mewled, feeling her knees give ever so slightly. She wasn’t sure he noticed, until a second later when he grabbed her ass, picked her up, and deposited her on the desk—never breaking their kiss.

Stepping between her legs, he rocked his hips against her center, letting her feel just how hard he was. Fuck, that felt good. Felicity swiveled her own hips in return, wanting more and more of that feeling. Gunnar was driving her out of her mind, and she never wanted this to stop. Hell, he could take her right here, right now and there would be no complaints from her.

“Hey, Heather…oh shit…” Link’s voice called, pulling Felicity out of the haze. She turned to see the waiter standing in the doorway, wide-eyed, almost frozen in place. “Shit…sorry, sorry!” Backing out of the room as quickly as he busted in, Link let the door close with a soft click.

Felicity turned back to Gunnar, her lips throbbing from his assault. What the hell was that? she wondered, but not quite willing to voice it. She ran her fingers along her bottom lip, savoring the feeling, her breath still ragged. Looking down at her, the fire still raged in Gunnar’s eyes, but she could see it starting to calm. He swallowed hard, stepping back from her, his own hand brushing against his swollen lips.

With a curt nod, he opened the door, giving her a wink.

“Effie…”

Chapter Ten

The vibration from the plane’s engine under Gunnar’s feet was soothing in a way, helping him keep his focus where it belonged and not on just how good Felicity Sutherland’s kisses tasted. Or at least it was trying to help keep his focus.

Her kisses had been unforgettable, however. Hell, everything about her had been—from the way she felt in his arms to the way she reacted to his touch. He might have caught her off guard at the start, but she kissed him back with just as much fervor, which had only fueled him on more. Maybe it was a good thing they had been interrupted, or else he might have ending up fucking her right there on that desk.

Everything about her last night had been completely and utterly fuckable.

That was the thought that had kept him up most of the night. What had started out as being pissed off quickly morphed into him being the most turned on he’d been in a long time. There was something about the way those charcoal pants had hugged her legs and that teal shirt seemed to match her eyes that had riled him up without him even realizing it. Or maybe it was the way she fought back, armed with her own defense ready and in place for battle. Whatever it had been, by the time she’d stormed off, all of his self-control was gone.

And he’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

But when she hadn’t shown up to join the team on their trip to Denver for their first preseason game this morning, he didn’t know whether he was relieved or unnerved. There was a large part of him that wanted to see her this morning. He couldn’t help but wonder if she’d spent all night thinking about him the same way he’d been thinking about her—and if she’d taken matters into her own hands the same way he had. There was another part of him, though, that didn’t want her anywhere near him. Despite how sexy she was—and the fact that he now knew she kissed like a dream—being around her was…difficult. Hell, she was difficult. Not to mention confusing.

The Felicity he’d gotten glimpses of the other night told him that there was a lot more to her than she let the world know. Underneath all the piss and vinegar was something deep and interesting. But he had no interest in playing games to find out what that something was.

“Hey, Coach?” Liam asked, slipping into the seat next to him, snapping his thoughts away from the hot, leggy blonde.

Gunnar opened his eyes, turning to look at the hulking goalkeeper. He’d announced the starting lineup shortly before everyone boarded the plane, and the buzz of excitement coming off the players was palpable. If the six-foot-five Irishman was excited about his new role as starting goalie, it certainly wasn’t written on his face. Not that Liam had ever been one to wear his emotions on his sleeve. There was stoic, and then there was Liam.

“Got a sec?” he continued.

“As long as Cowboy didn’t send you, then always,” he said, laughing a little. After he’d walked out of the office last night, leaving Felicity still perched on the desk, he’d made his way back to their table. Cowboy’s inquisition started before his butt was even in his seat, his questions rapid-fire about where Gunnar had disappeared to and why on earth he’d been gone so long. They’d finished their meal in silence, Gunnar too afraid to even try to make an excuse about his behavior, knowing that Cowboy would see right through him.

“Nope. He’s dead to the world back there,” Liam answered, nodding his head toward the back of the plane.

“He always could sleep anywhere. So, what’s going on…something eatin’ at you?”

Liam’s eyes quickly darted a couple of rows in front of them, where a number of the training staff were sitting. The normally reserved player seemed to shrink into himself a little more, making Gunnar wonder just what was going on.

“Ummm, well, it’s just some of the guys were wondering if there was going to be a curfew after the game tonight or if we’re free to go out?” Liam asked, stumbling a bit over the question.
