Or his dick ever being this hard.
Liam was sure, without a doubt, that this was the hardest he’d ever been. Forget the time when he was thirteen and stumbled across some nudey mag that Finn had shoved under his bed, or the first time Orla had let him touch her boobs. He’d been hard in those moments, there was no question. But nothing had ever compared to Avery’s body rubbing against his as she kissed him.
Pulling back slowly, Liam missed her touch almost instantly. It took him a moment to come out of the haze, but when he did, he found Avery looking up at him, her lip caught between her teeth. His cock twitched all over again looking at her like this, her face flushed, still holding on to him as if he belonged to her. Which, if he were being honest, he did.
“Liam,” she said, her voice breathy even above all the noise.
“Avery, I—”
“Will you please take me home?” she cut him off.
Panic rose within him. He’d made the wrong move. He shouldn’t have kissed her. Guilt started to set in with the panic. He was so sure that she wanted to kiss him. She’d kissed him back, hadn’t she? Or was what he’d thought had been her trying to get closer and deepen the kiss really her trying to get away?
Fuck, now you’ve done it. Ruined everything…
“Are…are you not having fun?”
“No, I am,” she said, biting her lip again. He watched as she sucked in a deep breath, seeming like she was trying to find the courage to say something. “I just think it’d be more fun to go back to your place…finish what we started last week.”

Where did that come from?
Avery had always known that words were not her friend. She’d never been able to articulate things well. Or at least not in a way that sounded good. Give her technical jargon all day long, she could handle that. Being flirty and cute? Nope.
Until now, apparently.
Despite her shock at her own request, she knew it was what she wanted. He’d been looking at her all night like she was the prettiest thing he’d ever seen, his eyes never straying, even once they were inside Club 404 and surrounded by all sorts of beautiful women. He’d held her close, making her feel like she was his. She was pretty sure that was the greatest feeling in the world. That was, until Liam’s hand was on her back and his body was grinding against hers. That had been delicious. No, more than that. It had been intoxicating. The second he’d taken her hands while they were dancing, she’d wanted to climb him like a tree. No one had ever made her feel that way.
If Liam had been surprised by her request, he hadn’t shown it. In fact, he’d wasted no time in leading her off the dance floor and out of the club, only pausing briefly to toss some money onto their table, presumably for the waitress they’d never even talked to.
Sliding into the car, butterflies filled her tummy. There was a buzz to the air like she had never felt, and she wasn’t quite sure what to make of it—or if Liam felt it too. His reaction had surprised her. Maybe even more than the words that had come out of her mouth. But the fire that had been in his eyes was unmistakable. It was a reaction she’d longed for—for someone to want her just as much as she had wanted them. Not that she had any idea what any of this meant. But she wasn’t going to think about that right now. She wasn’t going to let herself get into her own head about this.
Avery rested her hand on the seat, unsure what to do with it. She missed his touch already, and they hadn’t been separated for more than a few minutes. Was that normal? Reaching down deep in her, she dug up some courage, sliding her hand across the cloth seat toward his. All she wanted was just to feel his skin against hers. When her hand found his, she felt a shock, pulling back quickly in surprise. Her heart started to race as Liam looked over at her, his eyes wide. It was hard to tell in the dark what that look was, sending her pulse skyrocketing. Leave it to static electricity to ruin the moment.
Only, apparently it hadn’t.
The next thing Avery knew, Liam’s big, strong hand found the back of her neck, pulling her to him, capturing her mouth with his. Her whole body lit up like a Christmas tree all over again, her pulse not bothering to slow down. His kisses were hot and wet yet inviting. When his tongue found hers, she let out a little whimper, trying to get as close to him as she could while buckled in. She was pretty sure if he could have hauled her into his lap, he would have, and for a moment she considered throwing safety to the wind and letting him. But then his free hand found her waist, gripping her tight, and all thoughts of safety went right out the window. All she could think about was his intoxicating kiss.
And all the other things she wanted him to do to her.
“Ahem,” the driver cleared his throat, interrupting her lusty thoughts.
Liam pulled back from her, looking almost drunk from their making out. A blush crept up the back of her neck, liking the feeling of knowing that she did that to him. He was making her feel much the same way. They were back in front of Liam’s building, so he opened the door and slid out, holding out a hand for her to do the same. Wincing slightly, she pushed herself out of the car and onto the sidewalk. Her feet hurt like hell. She’d thought the breaking in of her shoes was going well, but apparently all it had taken was being off her feet for a few moments to change that.
“What’s the matter?” Liam asked, watching as she took baby steps toward the door. “Your feet hurt?”
Avery nodded, not wanting to admit it. He’d questioned the shoes earlier, and she didn’t want to give him a reason so say, “I told you so.” Even though he had one.
“Well, we can’t be having that,” he said, his accent thick and rough. It sent the butterflies in her tummy wild, and she bit her lip to stop from letting out a moan. Without missing a beat, he scooped her up, like a groom would a bride, and carried her into his building. Once they were in the elevator, he pulled her in closer, leaning down to kiss her again, and she knew she was done for.
He continued to kiss her all the way back to his apartment, somehow even managing to find and unlock the door with her still in his arms. Once they were inside, he kicked the door shut and headed straight for the bedroom, only stopping his kisses once he’d gently placed her on the bed. Even then, it seemed that his coming up for air was done begrudgingly. She understood the feeling, not wanting him to stop either. Liam reached over and flipped on the bedside light, giving the room a soft glow. The look in his eyes as he returned to her was hungry, full of want, but also soft and caring. Her heart squeezed as a shiver ran through her, nerves suddenly surfacing.
Was she really doing this? She wanted to. Everything within her was screaming for Liam to touch her like he did last week and for her to touch him in return. But she had no idea what she was doing. What if she did something wrong? What if he didn’t like it? What if this ruined their friendship? She didn’t want to be that girl, that one who got all up in her head and turned sex into something more than what it was, but that was the thing. She didn’t know what it was. Sure, she knew the mechanics. She’d experienced those. But this was something new. She’d never wanted it like she did right now, and that scared the shit out of her.
“Liam,” she said, her voice coming out a lot more breathy than she’d intended.
“Yes, love?” he responded, running a hand down her leg, slipping her shoe off. He repeated the action with the other leg, slower this time, dragging out the motions and driving her wild.
