“Mr. Rawlins,” Mikayla starts, her voice sharp as a nail.
Everything about her is as sharp as a nail actually. Clearly all business and no play, the disdain for me is dripping down her. To the point where it’s making this room uncomfortable, and all she’s done is say my name.
Her two siblings sit on either side of her, both of them a lot more relaxed. In fact, if anything, Rylan looks bored. Like he feels that this is a waste of his time.
You and me both, buddy…
“Thank you for joining us today. Normally we would provide an agenda for meetings, but today, there’s only one. Southern Brothers Brewing’s slanderous statements about Wink & Shine.”
Slanderous. Wow, way to break out the big words right away. This women isn’t messing.
I take a beat, wanting to make sure she’s finished before I speak. She stares me down, demanding a response, her eyes all no-nonsense. There is no room for joking with her.
So much for my defense…
Squaring myself, I stare back at her, ready for this. The flicks of green and gold in her hazel eyes dance in the light from above, stealing my breath. My chest tightens as it hits me like a linebacker coming at my blind side.
I know those eyes.
Those gorgeous, sweet, intoxicating hazel eyes.
The same ones I stared into as one of the most incredible women I’ve ever met fell apart in my arms. The same ones that hypnotized me over breakfast tacos. The same ones I’ve been thinking about all morning.
“You have hazel eyes…” I mutter, almost subconsciously.
“I do,” Mikayla replies, scrunching her brow, not following why that’s relevant.
There’s no way. No. Can’t be. Those are Luna’s eyes.
Luna…the woman whose real name I don’t know. So even if I asked them if they knew her, or said I met someone who had a similar feature, they’d have no idea who I was talking about. There’s no way for me to ask without sounding like I’m crazy.
But I’m not. I know those eyes.
“Sorry!” The door to the conference room slams open. “I’m late, I know. You don’t have to say it.”
All four of us jump at the interruption, turning to look at the perpetrator. That’s when I see her.
Time stops, the entire universe screeching to a halt and stopping on a dime. Forget the record scratch, because there isn’t even time for that.
It’s her.
“Luna…?”

LINDEE
“Who’s Luna?”
Mikayla’s voice is so shrill and demanding that it slices through the air like a poison dart. I wince, my body reflexively trying to protect itself. Another screech like that and my eardrums may revolt.
My eyes dart to look at Brewer—errrr…wait, that’s not his name—my heart rate finding a new rhythm as it skips and jumps, unsure if it should speed up, slow down, or flat out hide.
He’s here.
Brewer’s here.
Shit, I need to figure out his real name…
