ZOMBIE

“What the fuck’s wrong with you?”

I push past Whiz and stride toward the bar. The prospect who’s working tonight, Junior, has a beer waiting for me before I even slide onto the stool.

“Thanks,” I mutter before taking a long pull from the bottle. When Whiz sits next to me, I groan. “What?”

“I asked you a question.”

“And I ignored it. Take the hint.”

It’s been a week since I stopped by the zoo to see Lucy, and she hasn’t made any attempt to get in touch. It’s driving me insane. I’ve checked my cell way too many times to count, and no amount of distraction has helped. Hell, I even thought fucking Star, one of the club whores, would do the trick, but I couldn’t even get it up for her.

Hence, my shit mood.

“Why don’t you just call her?” he asks.

Stiffening, I shake my head. “Can’t.”

“Why the hell not?”

“Because I’m not a beggar.”

“No,” he concedes. “But you are the VP, and you’ve got more business with the elusive vet than just getting in her pants.”

I love Whiz, I really do, but he’s dangerously close to getting the shit beat out of him. “Don’t you think I know that?” I bark.

“Then why the fuck aren’t you doing anything about it?”

I down the rest of my beer and slam the empty bottle onto the bar top before getting to my feet and whirling on him. “What do you suggest I do?”

Whiz stands and crosses his arms over his chest. “I suggest you start acting like the goddamn VP of a one-percenter MC and not a pussy who can’t get his head out of his ass.”

Hauling my arm back, I’m surprised when a hand wraps around my wrist, stopping me from breaking the road captain’s jaw.

“Get your shit together,” Lyric snarls from behind me.

The second he lets go, my arm falls to my side, and I huff out a breath. “Motherfucker!”

“Whiz is right,” Pres bites out.

My brothers are now standing shoulder to shoulder, and I glare at them. “No shit,” I huff.

“Then answer his question. What’re ya gonna do about it?”

I scrub my hands down my face and sigh. They make it sound so easy, but it’s not. Not by a long shot. If all I had to do was go give Lucy an old-fashioned shake-down, this shit woulda been sorted already. But I went and caught an obsession for the woman, and that’s complicated things.

“I don’t fucking know,” I admit.

“You don’t have long to figure it out,” Lyric says.

“Why?”

“Because I came out here to tell you that I just heard from Trick, Quake, and Pilot. They’re fueling up the jet and should be on their way back within an hour.”

“It’s about damn time,” Whiz gripes. “Where’d they finally catch up with him?”
