EIGHTEEN
“You better stop,” Mireya playfully whispers in my ear.
“I don’t have to stop shit. If I want to kiss and touch my wife, I can and I will,” I admit. “You look so damn beautiful; I can’t help it.”
The moment that elevator door opened and I saw her, my heart actually skipped a damn beat. She looks so beautiful, everything, her hair, her pretty ass face, and this dress. It’s hugging all of her addictive curves. I can’t keep my hands off her.
“When your parents get in, you better behave,” she warns.
We are in the Sprinter, waiting for Shuga and Asali to come downstairs. Ace, his wife, Tre, and Deuce headed to the winery earlier. Most of my family should already be there.
After kissing the side of her neck, I say, “I can’t make any promises.”
Seconds later, the door opens and it’s Shuga and Shiro, no Asali. Since Shiro is sitting up front with the driver, he must have seen her walking out of the hotel and got out to help her. As he assists Shuga in, Niya says, “You look pretty, Nana.”
“Thank you, baby, but look at you. Looking like the princess you are. I love your hair,” Shuga gushes as she joins Niya on the first row.
“You look pretty, Shuga, for real,” I say. Shuga is a very pretty woman and today she looks regal. I haven’t seen her dolled up in a minute. “But where’s Asali?”
“He’s not feeling good. He went back to the house,” Shuga says.
“Oh no. Is he going to be okay?” Mireya asks with concern.
“He’ll be fine,” Shuga says nonchalantly.
Once Shiro is in the front seat, the driver pulls out and we head to Divine Wines. When we arrive, Mireya’s other two friends meet us at the entrance. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I can see why my wife loves this place so much. The entrance alone is picturesque with the stone arch, massive greenery, and large wine barrels.
Niya grabs Mireya’s hand and she walks inside with her and the other ladies. Shiro falls back a little ’cause he’s on his cell, so I hook my arm with Shuga’s and lead her up the walkway.
“You okay, Shuga?” I ask, because although she looks pretty this evening, her usual bright smile is missing. She’s sporting a wry one.
“Yeah, son. I’m fine. We’re here at this beautiful place. My sons look so handsome in their suits and my Niya looks like a real life princess. Nothing can spoil this, not even Asali.”
“What’s wrong with him?” I ask.
“It’s just his stomach. He needed to go home,” she says, so emotionless.
I stop walking then look at her face. “Are you sure you’re good?”
“Quintus, I’m fine,” she insists. “And Asali will be fine. Okay?”
Her normal smile returns as she speaks, so I accept her words and we head inside. After walking through the small building, we are led outside to three awaiting electric golf carts. Mireya’s friends get in one, Shiro and Shuga in another, and me, Niya, and my wife are in the last one. There’s about a ten-minute ride through the vineyards to our dinner location.
Inside, Niya sits under my wife and rests her hand on Mireya’s lap. My baby girl is crazy about my wife and she’s been glued to her since the first night in our house. Everything about that night was perfect. It solidified what I already knew; Mireya is mine. She’s the woman I need in my life and Niya’s acceptance and affection toward her proves it. In this golf cart is my life—my wife, my baby girl, my family.
“What?” Mireya asks.
“What’s up?”
“You’re staring,” she says with a smile.
“I can’t look at my two beauties?”
“You can, Daddy,” Niya says.
“I guess you can,” Mireya adds. “You’re ready for this?”
“There’s nothing to be ready for. It’s dinner with the people we love to celebrate us. All that other stuff doesn’t matter. It’s real and it’s us.”
