“It’s actually all simple stuff.”

I get on the treadmill and warm up for a few minutes. Tage has found his place against the wall, his eyes on me. I try not to let his stare—or the fact he’s only in his briefs—deter me from doing what I normally do, but it’s difficult when my dick is taking note of the look in his eyes. Still, I get through my work out without any issue. But then he follows me to the bathroom, where he watches me undress and get into the shower.

Chapter Twenty

Tage

The walk-in shower takes up about a third of the bathroom with no traditional door or curtain, just glass covering the half near the showerhead to stop water from coming out. Lane steps into it, turns on the water, and waits just a moment before stepping under it. I’m sure he has something going on that allows the water to come out hot immediately. I would. Who likes waiting for the water to get warm?

He runs his hands over his head, getting his hair wet. I take in his toned arms and the way his ribs are slightly more prominent with his arms reached up like that.

I never had a voyeur kink before, but I think I do now. For him. Just watching him really turns me on, and I don’t even know why. It’s not something I can explain or even make sense of.

In the gym. Here. At work. The man is just… sexy.

It’s undeniable.

And so are my feelings.

My heart pounds a little harder as I carefully step out of my briefs and walk into the shower. I slide my arms around his waist and rest my cheek against his back. He flinches like he didn’t expect me to be in here, but it takes less than a second for his hands to come down on my arms and hold me. We stand there for a while, not saying a word. The room grows warmer, the glass fogging up. I like being close to him. Touching him. Hugging him. I like him.

“Are we—is this… something?” I ask.

Lane turns in my arms, his hands coming up to cup my cheeks.

“Of course it’s something.”

“No, I mean—”

“I know what you mean, Tage,” he says with a soft smile. “And the answer is this can be whatever you want it to be. But it is something.”

“So, if I just want this to be about sex…”

“Then that’s what it’ll be.”

“But if I want more?”

“Then tell me you want more.”

Goosebumps cover my skin as I look into his eyes. I swore to myself I was getting away from all this, from these types of people, yet I’m drawn right back in.

Is this a subconscious thing? My mind reverting to what it knows because it knows I can’t handle figuring things out on my own? That would be fucked up, but would I ever really know? The brain is a powerful thing, and I’m not sure.

But deep down, I know that isn’t true.

This isn’t about safety.

This is about me falling for Lane.

Because I am happy alone. I am doing just fine on my own. I don’t need him, and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m so drawn to him. He’s what I avoided and yet I’m still here, proving how strong I am because I could ask him for anything and he’d give it—yet I keep telling him no.

I’ve proved to myself that I can do this; that I can figure out my life on my own.

“I want more,” I say firmly, still staring into his eyes.

He leans in to kiss me deeply, his mouth hot and wanting. But he pulls back before things get more heated, and he rests his forehead against mine.

“So do I,” he admits.
