I scanned the room. Someone had turned off the TV and the lights. Carter. He must’ve woken up after I passed out.

I stood, draped in the blanket, needing its warmth. And Carter’s. I scuffed to the kitchen in search of water and a middle-of-the-night snack. With my head in the fridge, I picked up a faint sound coming from the northern side of the house. I never ventured there. Carter had his home office, his music studio, and gym in that part of the cabin.

I treaded toward the sound. Music. Guitar. Carter’s voice.

Goosebumps blossomed all over my skin.

Even from a distance, his voice soothed me.

My entire body woke up at the sound of his voice, hoarse and raw.

I found Carter in his studio, in sweatpants, bare-chested, locked in his own world, strumming his guitar.

I stared at his fingers. Skillful and strong. He handled the cords with so much gentleness.

My mouth watered, thirsty for this man. All I wanted to do was lick him, taste him, turn him into a blaze with one sweep of my tongue over all his sensitive flesh. He shouldn’t be allowed to wear a shirt ever again. This should be a rule. A tingling sensation ran along my spine, and I squeezed my thighs together.

Carter raised his eyes to me and smiled at my sight. The blanket around me trailed on the floor like a sophisticated gown.

The upward curve of his lips sent jolts to my heart, and my heartbeat picked up.

The gray of Carter’s irises darkened and captured me.

His throat worked, and he shifted in his seat, inviting me to sit between his legs.

I unhooked the blanket from around me, and it pooled on the floor as I shuffled toward him in a trance.

Carter’s arms wrapped around me from behind, and he dropped a kiss in the crook of my neck. His lips rested there, and he breathed me in. Tremors shook my core. Carter placed the guitar in my hands, knitted our fingers together, and strummed the instrument with my hands balled in his.

He played a few chords, singing to me.

My heart leaped.

Butterflies danced low in my belly.

I leaned my head back against his hard chest and lost myself in his voice, his manly scent enveloping me.

Hold my hand

Hold on tight

It’s just the beginning

I’ll teach you everything I know

You’ll show me the world through your eyes

You and me, we’re cut from the same tree

You and me, we’re a forever love story.

I mouthed the lyrics of his greatest hit.

My body sank deeper into his. I felt Carter’s heart banging against my back.

He put his guitar on its stand and turned me around until I straddled him. His powerful hands pushed my hair behind my ears, and he tipped my chin up with a curled finger. As we faced each other, I drowned in the ocean of his eyes.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Carter’s husky tone shot untamed desire to my pulsing clit, and I shivered. A grin painted over his full lips.
