Savannah inched closer and dragged her long ruby fingernails down the length of my chest. Iciness ran up and down my spine.

I circled her wrist, took a step back, and moved out of her reach.

“We’re done. We were never good together. You have another boy toy, anyway. You don’t need me.”

All color drained from her plastic face.

“You know about Jean-Jacques?”

A guttural growl escaped my lips.

“You’re not even subtle about him. I know you’ve been having an affair for over a year. How stupid do you think I am?” Her red-painted lips parted. Who wore scarlet lipstick this early in the morning anyway? “Stop. Don’t. Not a word. I don’t want to hear anything else from you.”

Savannah used her sultriest voice, the one I couldn’t resist a long time ago. “Baby, stay. Jean-Jacques means nothing. I want to be with you.” She batted her long dark eyelashes. As if I was dumb enough to fall for her charade after two years of hell. The sound of her voice alone made my stomach churn and the hair stand on end on my arms.

“You’re pathetic, Savannah. I don’t owe you anything. Go dig your claws into someone else’s heart and bank account and leave me alone.” I sucked in a breath. “Oh, and by the way, I broke the lease. You have to get out of this apartment by the weekend.” No way I’d let her surf on my money any longer. Screw that. It cost a pretty penny to forfeit the lease, but it was worth every cent from the look on Miss Lucifer’s face.

Savannah lost it. Her high-pitched scream resonated throughout the apartment.

I fought the urge to grin. The sight was worth millions of dollars.

I dodged the vase she threw my way that crashed on the wall two inches from my head.

Next, she threw a pillow.

And a TV clicker.

One black high heel.

I moved to the side to avoid being stabbed in the chest by the stiletto.

One step to the right and she missed me when she threw a glass my way.

Then another black heel.

Fury had taken over her features.

Her face was now red hot, almost purplish.

I blinked as a plate flew my way.

It crashed on the side of my skull.

“Stop. For fuck’s sake, stop. Enough.”

I lifted my finger to rub the spot where the plate collided with my head.

It fucking hurt.

Blood. Damn it.

“You and I, we belong together.” Her satanic laugher turned into a flood of tears, leaving trails of mascara down her cheeks. “Carter, stay.”

“Sorry, Sav. That little number doesn’t work on me anymore. I’m done. Have a nice life.”

I yanked the door open and slammed it behind me, storming to my truck, using the staircase instead of the elevator, to sweat off some of my rage.

Seated behind the wheel, I shot June a text.
