He just nods and lets it go, which is exactly why I’ve trusted this man more than most people in my life.

“I’ll have to tell Madison.”

“I know.”

“I mean it. I can’t sit on this. That woman is a bloodhound.”

“I’m not ashamed of the woman in my bed, Beckett. Tell Madison whatever you need to tell her.”

“Okay, well, I should probably get out of here before she comes down and finds me.”

“Probably wise.”

He heads for his car.

“For the record,” he says, turning back, “I get it.”

I laugh under my breath. Beckett knows the power of a Callahan woman more than most.

The vibration against my thigh hasn’t stopped for three hours.

Nine texts. Six missed calls. Two voicemails I refuse to open.

“Beckett deals with gunshot wounds, but he can’t keep his mouth shut for five minutes?” I throw my hands up. “He’s a snitch.”

“You basically announced yourself.”

“I broke my toe.”

“Your toe is fine. I checked it.”

I pull my phone out. Another text lights up the screen.

Madison: I KNOW YOU ARE WITH HIM. ANSWER ME.

I shove the phone back into my pocket.

When Hudson told me over coffee that Beckett knew, I panicked. To distract myself, I suggested we go somewhere for breakfast. He drove me home so I could change and feed the cats, and I figured we were heading to a diner downtown where I could eat waffles in peace. Instead, Hudson turned down a quiet suburban street and pulled into the driveway of a house I’d never seen before.

“Where are we?”

“My parents’ house,” he says, unbuckling his seatbelt.

I freeze. “Your what?”

“My parents. We’re having breakfast.”

“Hudson.” I grab his forearm. “Look at me.”

He turns to me, totally calm. “I’m looking.”

“Are you insane?” I whisper-hiss. “You brought me to meet your parents? Today? I haven’t even processed that we’re having sex yet.”
