The priest waited until Avi was settled, then relaxed on a pew across the aisle from him. “I’m
Father Janna, by the way. And you are?”
“Xavier, but everyone calls me Avi. I’m Vale Valley’s new fire chief.” He chuckled. “Maybe
not that new anymore. Been here a few months.
Father Janna crossed his arms. “New enough. Now tell me, what is it that’s troubling you?”
Avi rubbed the back of his neck. “I suppose something is bothering me. But…” Would the holy
man think he was a perv? He couldn’t remember if the church he was in represented one of those
faiths that allowed their priests to have carnal relations. “Well… it’s about someone who I think
might be my fated mate.”
Father Janna regarded him for a few moments then finally spoke. “And?”
Avi sputtered, “A-and…He…I…”
Father Janna closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. At last, he locked gazes with
Avi. “Take a breath. You have yourself too worked up over something I already sense you know the
answer to.”
“But how do I know if he really is the one? He’s so cute and sweet. However, he’s also so
much younger than me. I can’t help but feel it’s wrong somehow.”
One corner of Father Janna’s mouth quirked into a smile. “Sounds hot.”
Avi cough-snorted. “Oh… uh, yeah. You could say that.”
The priest clasped his hands then leaned forward. “Do you believe that fate fucks up?”
Avi’s jaw dropped. He’d clearly attributed a lot of wrong traits to the modern priests of the
Twenty-First Century. “No, of course not.” He gave Father Janna a tight smile. “I see your point.”
Father Janna shrugged. “Are there any other issues? You don’t find him appealing? He’s a
snotty little shit? He thinks you’re a hideous troll?”
Jesus. Avi cleared his throat. He probably shouldn’t be thinking blasphemous thoughts while
sitting in a church.
“None of those things, I assure you. I’ve never felt such a pull toward an omega—or anyone—
for that matter. And not only am I wildly attracted to him, but I can tell he’d make a wonderful father
and mate. He’s also made it clear he’s interested. But I’ve been rebuffing him.”
“Not too bright, are you?” Father Janna sighed. “Set your mind at ease, Avi. Fate has set you on
this collision course with your young omega and means for you to follow through on your attraction.
